Love playland. YOu can do the whole park easily in 1/2 day. Great rides for small kids and older kids alike. Great location on LI SOund.
We are regulars each summer, as we live very close by.... always great fun and wonderful views from the ferris wheel over the Long Island Sound...
This is a children's paradise - rides, ice rink, beach, etc. There is a park nearby that is perfect for relaxing and watching the waterfront.
We live close to playland and had heard about the park so decided to give it a try, with kids 11 and 7 years old. We were incredibly disappointed. Most of the attractions creak disturbingly, are old and not well maintained. The food around the park is the worst junk you can get at any park. There is no spark anywhere. Time to find a better use for a great piece of land.
We enjoyed this rink next to the ocean , Its an indoor rink , the prices are good, the skates were stylish, the rink was great size , the staff were friendly , and it was a good time.
Playland is the reason that municipalities should not own amusement parks. In fact, this is the only amusement park in the country owned by a government. The park will never make a profit due to its small size and because of that it will always be below par. The workers are disinterested and for the last bunch of years at least one person has died during the season. The land should be preserved as a green park with the historical structures remaining.
i love going here; it's always fun. i love the fireworks & discounted tuesday and Thursday nights. Only complaint is that i think they close too early for the season
Updated rides and entertainment at a great location on Long Island Sound in Rye, NY make Playland a great destination for the family. It's been around for decades and retains its old charm while it's modernizing in many subtle ways. Fireworks on Wednesday ad Friday evenings are a real treat.
Playland is over 100 years old. Has a kiddy land with safe rides that don't freak little ones out. Actually a manageable day at a fun park on the Sound. The oldest roller coaster in the US, the Dragon coaster, games prizes and cotton candy. Pay for admission and parking, can purchase spectator entry too if you don't care for the fun rides.
I used to go here as a kid once a year with my family. Brought my nephews here last summer on a Saturday. Park still has its old-fashioned charm. Park also is calm and laid back. There were no big crowds and the only line we waited for was for the Go-Karts. Park also has some really great indoor rides including two haunted houses and an old fashion Mill ride which is one of only 3 I think left in the country. Don't miss that one. The racing horses are also cool and there's also only about 3 of those left in the country too. Also, the park is open until 12:00 so there's no need to rush to get there and no need to rush during the day. We were able to do the entire park and that was with 5 people.
I thought my 12 & 10 yr old were getting too old for the park but they insisted they wanted to go so we went last minute on Labor day Monday. What a mistake. Yes, we saved some cash, it was $15 admission as opposed to the usual $30 but there was so much aggravation, crowds and lines, I'd rather go during the week and pay full price while there is hardly lines and crowds. The grounds are well kept and we always have a fun time. we usually ride 90% of the rides and always ride the dragon coaster, though I find it very bumpy. The food is expensive here so we try to share and munch on small things. Not an all day park, so don't get there too early if you want to stay for the fireworks which are only on certain days.
I love Rye Playland. I love the fact that it is a small park. You can do the whole park in a couple of hours. It is local and it doesn't take hours to get there. I love all the Art Deco style buildings. It is nicely located to the beach. They have everything you could possibly need....rides, food, beach, fireworks. It is a great place to take small children and I don't find it as crowded as Six Flags. I hope Playland will be around for many more years.
Went about 5:30 pm and walked the beach. One restaurant was open (didn't eat there though). Many people were on the beach. Water was calm, clear and small fish were swimming around. We stayed until 8 pm when they were closing the beach. The colors were amazing as you can see from the (amateur) photo.
This Park is ok for the little one, but go during the week. It is not very well run so there is much confusion about where the line ends and people do tend to cut the line because of the confusion. While some of the rides were nice for the little ones, avoid the carousel! The two girls working were so very slow... I've taken my kids to many carousels in many locations, and this is by far the worst managed. The carousel will sit between rides for longer than it runs. The girls did not seem to care about the people and little ones waiting as they were to be there all day anyway.
Even since I learned to drive, Ive spent many weekends out at Rye Playland. Many movies were filmed here. The park has two areas, one is a kiddy land area the other is the main ride area with so many arcade games and prize tickets games. The fireworks shows on the weekends are wonderful. The beach & boardwalk off Long Island Sound is so quiet. Check out their website for discount coupons.
