I adore Wolfe's Neck State Park. The fee is reasonable to get in, there is plenty of free parking. There are many trails to walk on (for all fitness levels!). There is picnic areas, fields for playing on, and bathrooms. The best things is the view...take a short walk down one of the trails and you are literally at the ocean. A must-do when in the Freeport area!
A great place for a short, beautiful walk. Accommodates wheel chairs, yet also has a number of enjoyable trails through the woods and on the water's edge. Lovely little side trip off I-295 is worth it. You'll want to live there.
I bet it's not known for skiing but we had a blast going up and down the small hills on the well packed out snowshoe trails. Fresh powder made for soft falls and beautiful scenery! Trails wander along the shore and through the woods.
We were in Portland recently on a Canadian cruise, and rented a car to do some sightseeing. Had seen some blurbs about this park and decided to check it out. Small fee for entrance, on the honor system. Nice parking lot. Well marked hiking trails which seemed well maintained. It was about a 10 minute walk to the waters edge, and what a view! Crystal clear water with a blue, blue sky and interesting rock formations. It was breathtaking. This is a stop worth taking the 20 minutes drive from Freeport. Make sure you have a camera!
Love taking walks here...several trails, but my favorite is the one that loops around with the ocean on your right (nay be shaped like a wolf's neck)...you are up high and at various points you can actually see osprey in their nests and flying as well. Beautiful woodsy areas with streams and flora...photo ops of the ocean, the rocky shore, the woods, the trails...and more. Lots of clear space to picnic, to play ball...to walk the dogs. A multifunctional park for everyone...from families with young children to dating couples to older folks. Plenty of parking close to where the trails begin. Some brochures at the trail start as well. The ride from downtown Freeport is not too far and yet very beautiful. You will feel a million miles away. Well worth a visit...just for fun...for picnicking...for a great time with out of town guests after you shop on Freeport...a perfect spot to take a relaxing and yet exciting walk with breathtaking view...Wolf's Neck is a great way to spend any part or all of your day.
This is a gorgeous, family friendly little park right down the road from Freeport. Most of the trails are only a mile or two long and very easy making this a good place to get outdoors with everyone!
This is my favorite place! So pretty! We take the kids here often. It is great all four seasons and is really truly beautiful. We do the Casco Bay trail, which is only about a mile. There are other trails though and the place is pet friendly!
We recently hiked a portion of the park and loved the ease of the trails, the beautiful scenery, and the cleanliness. You can get right up to the water, and there is a little stand that shows the names of the nearby islands. We were there for a family reunion years ago and it was a great spot for that.
If you are staying in or near Freeport and need are safe place to get some fresh air and relax this place will fit the bill. Located on and near the water and with paths to walk on with others or a leashed dog, it is a good little getaway. So close to Freeport but seems so far away because of how quiet the park is, very relaxing.
Serene, lovely place for a nice leisurely walk. don't forget your camera/phone and fun to bring a picnic lunch.
For the not too ambitious hiker this is a great place for a family walk to the shore through a beautiful forest. Quintessential Maine coastline. Stop at the wolves neck farm too!
spectacular bay views, picture perfect, and the little red squirrels were cute as well, the hiking trails weren't too difficult and were marked very well. everyone we met was friendly too!
A server at a restaurant in Portland gave us the suggestion of this park as a place to hike or cross country ski. We checked it out, and were not disappointed. It's not a huge park, but we loved the trails (about 5 miles of them). It was not crowded, and views were wonderful. Some trails come out by the water. It is not as dramatic as some other parks in the area, like Two Lights where waves tend to crash on the rocks, but very peaceful and full of fall colors. When we were there it was low tide, and we wandered out on the rocks and tide pools to explore. Views towards islands were great. Other trails stay in the woods or look out over a river. Beautiful place to spend an afternoon. We did not stop to shop in Freeport, but the park is not far from the town should you want to stop there.
Beautiful, well kept park. Lots of great trails, ocean views and water access. Clean bathroom sand dog owners with manners. Pack a picnic and make a day of it! I do not think there is a fee, at least not during off season.
the walk through the woods with the water in sight is peaceful and calming. it feels like a walk in the wild woods. i like the fact that there are no amenities and I found the outhouses decent enough. it feels rugged and lovely. i also like going to to the farm nearby with the belted cows and the place for kayaking and camping. very pretty.
