It takes a little bit of driving to get there, but the Moosehead Region is well worth it. If you love the beauty of the outdoors, wildlife, hiking, hunting or fishing this is the place for you. Or like me you like to photograph the shear beauty of northern Maine. If your looking for miniature golf and water parks this is not the place, but if you want to enjoy the outdoors with the family this is the place. There is lodging for all price points to 5star lodges to cabins to lodges to campgrounds. I get up there every year in the fall and look forward to this years trip.

it was very cold in January with lots of snow but that made for the romance, the quiet and the stark beauty.

Wonderful scenery, had a great 30 mile skidoo trip out on the trails. We took the skidoos out onto the frozen lake to get into the woods. We were lucky to visit the crash site on Elephant Mountain and pay homage at the crash site where the B52 came down in 1963. The site was adorned with American flags, the Moosehead riders arrange a memorial each year and the simple gesture of leaving flags among the wreckage, displayed the respect many people have, for the men who lost their lives, at that spot and the U.S. Air Force.

One of the most memorable things me and my family did while there was go on a canoe trip with a guide to a pond to see moose. They are absolutely stunning animals and everything you hear is peace and quiet aside from the frogs in the pond. You just feel like you're with nature.

Moosehead Lake is for those who want to go back in time. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do winter or summer. Hiking, kayaking, swimming, golfing, snowmobiling, skiing, fishing, boating, ice fishing.. You get the picture. Plenty to do, plenty of space, explore and you will find an in spoiled area full of beauty.

I spent most of my week long vacation here. Every day held something new to see and do! I had my Service Dog with me, which I believe is allowed; I'm not sure about 'regular' dogs. The trails are kept in excellent shape. The rocky shoreline yields plenty of interesting things to look at. On one side of the lake, if you have parked your car in the parking lot, to your left, features fallen trees bleached white from sun exposure. Here the clear waters show the deep drop-offs. I found lots of sticks to throw in the lake for my dog to swim after. We would return each night totally pooped, hungry and ready for bed.

We went on a cruise on the Katahdin steamboat, called "Kate". What a relaxing cruise up & down this huge lake. We had an added attraction as we were there for the International Sea Plane Fly-In. Fun. Beauty & history surround this gorgeous lake.

What's not to like?? It is beautiful, peaceful, serene. You could just sit outside and look across the lake all afternoon.

Went Columbus weekend very busy as always. Fall colors were beautiful. Next year want to take the float plane trip again didn't have time this trip.

Absolutely beautiful! We went to several areas on Moosehead, climbing Mt. Kineo one day, standing on a private dock near Prong Pond and fishing on the banks on several coves. It's October, so the water was chilly and rough at times, but it was breathtakingly beautiful.

This is my eighth trip to the Moosehead area in the last 58 years. It is the first time I have been in the fall. The fall colors on the trees by the lake are spectacular. I was quite surprised because in my mind, the area was just evergreen trees. The weather was perfect.

This is without a doubt one of my favorite spots to visit. Everyday offers something special. We love the water and moose watching. Saw three on this visit.

It's far enough up into Maine that it's not crowded, even during leaf-peeping season. I hear the fishing is very good.

Cute small town in Northern Maine. Motels were a bit dated but functional. Pizza was tasty and had a great breakfast buffet at Kelly's Landing.
