We didn't have much time to spend here, and though we were rushed, I am so glad we toured all through the exhibits. I especially loved the Wyeth art which I had seen displayed in Delaware, but will always view it as many times as I get the chance. I think the folks who run this museum are doing a truly excellent job, and I appreciate their obvious efforts to offer high-quality art to the public. Go...you will not be disappointed.
A wonderful little museum that's well worth the time and money. The Weyth work is marvelous. Enjoy both inside and outside spaces.
An A+ collection of work from the Wyeth boys!!! A great place for people young and old to learn about and see fine art.
One of the state's important cultural landmarks. Many artworks by the Wyeth family who spend lots of time nearby.
I had wanted to visit for years and finally had a chance in December, especially to study the Shaker exhibits. A great place to spend a cold afternoon!
Very interesting exhibit of Shaker memorabilia. Also the Wyeth art is very worthwhile. Also a nice gift store with cards, books etc.
We visited the museum mainly to see the Shaker exhibit, which was excellent. There are many pieces by the Wyeth family, although they are located in different galleries. Overall it's a good museum, my only caveat is that its organization is a little confusing, with exhibits tucked here and there, plus more in the Wyeth center, which is nearby. When we went the model train exhibit was set up in the Wyeth center, as part of the Christmas decor. The receptionist was very friendly and the store had many interesting items.
We visited the Farnsworth Art Museum in Maine on a rainy day in the summer. My brother-in-law did not have to pay admission because of a Bank America First Fridays deal. We are from Washington, D.C. so are used to free museums but found this one worth the price. The museum has an excellent Andrew Wyeth portraiture collection and until March 2015 an extensive Shaker exhibit-very informative. Rockland can be a fun town as we visited last summer for the Blues Festival on a warm sunny day.
Have not been to the Farnsworth in many years and found all the exhibits to be first rate. Shaker exhibit was very good. Most of all we enjoyed seeing the current Wyeth Collection. Staff very helpful. Make sure to visit all outbuildings that belong to the Museum.
I love the Farnsworth. It's a small "personal" museum where you never feel overwhelmed. The exhibits change frequently but the Wyeth pieces are always the focal point for me. The Farnsworth is always on our agenda when we visit the area. We knew we'd be back in a few months so we decided to become members. As a result, I "popped" in a few times during our last week's stay in the area. The museum shop and staff are quite nice.
We drove from Boston to see the temporary Wizard of Oz exhibit which was wonderful, but we were also wowed by the museum's other exhibits. Nice take if you are up country.....
The Farnsworth is a campus of several buildings, including the main building with a permanent collection specializing in art with a Maine connection and a special exhibition space; an historic home; and a former church building now home to a collection of works by N.C., Andrew, and Jamie Wyeth. Worth your time, especially on a rainy or foggy day on the mid-coast of Maine, even during a short stay in or near Rockland. Give yourself two hours, and visit the good gift shop.
Easy access and relaxed atmosphere - the Wyeth works are, obviously, the highlights. Make sure you visit all the buildings (it's not just one building)
We enjoyed a morning here seeing Wyeths, Nevelson's and Robert Indiana's works among other Maine artists. A unique perspective to have just Maine artists. We enjoyed an hour and a half here.
very manageable with an hour or two to spare; small shaker exhibit that was lovely and a few beautiful wyeth's (though not as many as i had expected). nice gift shop, and many restaurants nearby.
