They lured us there by having an Arts & Crafts fair with artists charging an arm & a leg for typical touristy "art", then wanted to charge people $6.00 admission

everyone should visit this thoroughly refreshing time capsule. it will add much to your appreciation of the island and keep you coming back for more!

I really enjoyed this museum, they have a full history of events on the island. They have a lot of old pictures of the island and they young lady working that day was very pleasant and refreshing to speak with. Rainy day or sunny is a good time to visit for an hour or so. The day I visited there was an author signing his book on the WWII submarine that was sunk off the island.

Moldy smell and unattended. Really wanted to get a feel for the island history but couldn't breath. We wandered around for a few minutes and as we were leaving someone approached us for an admission fee. Love supporting American historical museums but this place needs some refreshing.

Some amazing artifacts and a friendly helpful staff. Its a special treat to learn more about the island's history and the staff is excited to share the stories of the past.

Every place has a history. This small museum is a good cool or rainy day take. Believe open during peak season and some weekends. Worth seeing ...

The Block Island Historical society should be on every visitors list. This little museum has so much information on island history. From the Indians who originally inhabited the island to a full geneology of the white settlers. There are lots of photos and postcards and articles from the 1800's when the island had it's first tourist boom and so many of the hotels were built. There is information on shipwrecks and the sword fishing fleet, hurricanes and the history of farming. They also have a little gift shop that is worth a visit. The entrance fee is very low and supports the ongoing restoration of both the building and the collection.

Block Island has a great deal of history, and the historical society is a good place to learn more. There are hundreds of photos of old Block Island, the buildings, and the people. The building is not air conditioned - and can be hot on a warm day. And the collection is quite cluttered. But still - stop in and take a look at the history of Block Island and early coastal Rhode Island.

I certainly enjoyed the museum tour that added unique insight to the Block Island history. They even gave me some free post cards! It is close to shops and places to dine.

There is a small fee to enter but to us it was worth it in order to learn more about the origins of Block Island. The only thing we were slightly disappointed in is that it is a self guided tour.

My husband and I wanted to learn about the history of Block Island; we were not disappointed by the experts on this topic at the Block Island Historical Society, and learned much on this topic...not only is it a great vacation venue, but it is rich in interesting history, and thanks to the information we received, we are now "experts" as well. Come for a Block Island history lesson, you'll learn a ton of interesting facts from the personable and knowledgable staff.

This is an interesting little museum. It's like pleasant Block Island overall--not gussied up and touristy. Some interesting maps and a little maritime history.
