I arrived at the sight after a six hour drive from northern Ohio, stopping over on a 5 day American Battlefields tour. The main house called the Anthony Woodson House which was also the museum was closed, i was there at around 3:30 pm on Saturday. The area is surrounded by farms and mainly on private land, but there is a walking trail with signs on battle movements, along with a mounded hill, the remains of an old fort, Fort Craig. This battle was very strategic, and though the Confederates won, they lost the battle for the west because of bad decision making by the generals. This battlefield site also lacks a good website that can tell you the times they are open, so I would recommend they update that.

Visited during Civil War Days event. Battlefield is well presreved, nice trails. A number of living history demonstrations were conducted at the Woodson House as well as reenactors. This place should be a National Service Park.

This little know Battlefield and surrounding towns played such a role in the outcome of the American Civil War Between the States. Major Generals in latter battles cut their teeth in the field here. The graveled trail is well groomed and the few farm sites are nice but we tried on three different days to find someone at the Woodson house but did find the port a potty a life saver. We did get to see a train crossing the bridge and finding side roads which are not well marked was a bit harder. But good things are worth working for. Had hoped for more but it does appear they do put on living history programs and activities as the firepits and wooden benches were in place. Locals still working on tourism business. Read about it before hand as we never saw any local works or books on the battle at any locations we visited in the area.
