Hard to explain, but this place is beyond cool. Visit at least once, just so you can say you've been. You won't be disappointed.
The outside is interesting but the inside is even better. It isn't costly and it's a fun experience for the whole family.
We stopped by on one of our trips,.It was really interesting I really didn't know what I was in for,so we decided to do the Mystery Hole..The man that was the guide was a great tour person. He made in exciting and it was alot of fun .If you haven't seen this before you need to take time and stop by..Pretty Neat....
The best part was the "decorations" outside the building. Kids always love places like this but as an adult you have to know it's all just a cleverly engineered illusion. Even so, they are fun but this Mystery Hole was no different than any of the other "mystery rooms". I was hoping for a new gimmick. You are not allowed to take pictures inside the hole.
My husband and I drove past The Mystery Hole on our way to the New Bridge. Who could resist stopping here?? Not us! This place brought back such good memories of times gone by -- used to stop at these kinds of places as a kid when on vacation with my parents. Our guide was very entertaining and we both enjoyed this unexpected stop very much!
The guide here did a good job but the place is small and the trip thru is short, very short. We were visiting the area but will not return here.
Its a mystery....you have to see for yourself. Its by Hawk's Nest, WV and was very surprised. A great roadside attraction.
The biggest mystery here is why so many people spend $6 and sometimes hours waiting to get in here. For sure it's a "campy" place and it hasn't changed in years...dust covers everything. You step into a basement filled with hallways and tiny rooms with the most tacky displays ever, skeletons, 3 mannequins dressed as 50's women, a black light room and the pièce de résistance, a room, perhaps 25 x 20 feet slanting downward to give the illusion of defying gravity, actually it made me dizzy just standing in the room. Water flows uphill, golf balls roll upwards in a room that reminds me of a fun house. This is in fact a self made basement fun house and if you appreciate the quirkiness of such things then wait and spend your money like so many others do. Who ever owns this place has found the secret to making hundreds per day by doing almost nothing! After all it suckered me in too.
Short stop at the Mystery Hole is a must, you cant just drive by. The guide did a good job with the presentation but nothing we really haven't seen before. Crazy building attracts ppl and the price isn't bad.
This was a fun stop along winding US 60 in West Virginia - while I wouldn't make it my destination stop, it is a nice break from driving if you are passing thru the area. Reasonably priced, it isn't more than a half an hour stop that will perplex the kids and appeals to anyone who likes their mind challenged by a bit of math and physics.
We stopped by here on our way home. Being a science teacher, I had to see this for myself. My kids and parents and myself really enjoyed this. The owner was our tour guide and did a wonderful job. This is a must see! Very neat and very rare. Not expensive and had a cute gift shop with lots of stuff I havent seen in a long time. We talked about the mystery the whole way home. Check it out to see for yourself.
This was hyped a lot more than what it was worth I think. However, the kids seemed to enjoy it. You can't take a camera or phone inside to take pictures. You can't even take a purse in ladies. So be prepared for that. Over all I'd call it average.
The best part about the Mystery Hole is the outside of the building and the great view out back. Save your self some time and a few bucks and skip this one.
Out on a drive over highway 60? Stop in and check out the Mystery Hole, especially if you have kids. Good memories are made in places like this. Wont tell you what the Mystery Hole is, as if I did, would it still be a mystery? Simple, clean, basic campy fun. Nice view over the mountains. There are a few basic rules to follow, but if such is a problem, just keep on driving. Rated Excellent as I love the small, out of the way places that are simple. No bathroom facility, but an option is present. Bathrooms are less than five minutes drive up the road at the state park.
I can't tell you the details but it's the best six bucks tourists trap in West Virginia. You have to go to find out what's in the basement of the Quonset hut with a bear on top and a VW bug in the side. Wife works the gift shop and hubby does a carnival barker like tour. Bring the kids, it's fun
