Falls of Hills Creek Scenic Area is located in the Monongahela National Forest, west of Hillsboro. We visited on the way up go skiing at Snowshoe during a cold spell and the waterfalls were spectacular in their frozen beauty. From the parking area, a paved, handicapped-accessible trail leads about a quarter-mile to the overlook for Upper Falls on Hills Creek. Upper Falls is 25 feet, but the view is from the side so it's hard to see and not very impressive. Past this overlook, the trail gets more challenging as it descends via stairs and boardwalks. The next overlook is for Middle Falls on Hills Creek, a 45-foot waterfall. The overlook is in a much better position so you get a much better view of the falls. Past here is a steep metal staircase and more wooden boardwalks to descend to Lower Falls on Hills Creek. At 63 feet, this is the second highest waterfall in the state of West Virginia and certainly one of the most beautiful. It was quite cold when we visited and the upper and middle waterfalls were completely frozen. The lower waterfall was still flowing but a huge cone of ice formed at the base. I thought it kind of looked like a giant blue pineapple. Although this area is likely more popular in the warmer months, it's definitely worth checking out in the winter when there's potential for the waterfalls to freeze and this area becomes a winter wonderland.

Just be prepared to walk. It is a decent hike, great falls at the end. The trek is worth the view. I never get enough of WV.

The kids and dog loved the walk down and there are several places to stop and view or rest if someone when need it. To get to the last fall, you have to walk down some steep staircases and I was afraid that to try it with my dog. There was another area that had metal staircases (little spikes for traction on it) and my dog didn't like it on her paws but I as long as I kept her moving, she did fine. Still worth the trip, just letting you of some things you may want to think about. Also felt funny carrying a my purse due to signs posted regarding theft, I have suv. Grew up drinking from streams on wildlife trips, so I taught my kids how to drink from the stream and refilled bottles (didn't get sick.)

The quintessential beauty of West Virginia is on full display on the trails and the falls. The path and steps down to the lowest fall is well maintained, the most difficult part being the final descent, but it is mostly stairs. The trip down is worth it, postcard-like scenery all along the way. Allow for about an hour, my 79 year old dad made it in about 45 minutes. There are no restroom facilities on the trail, but some in the parking lot before you go. Not to be missed if you are in the area!

We have an SUV and a little bit of adventure, so even though the road was unplowed we forged ahead. It's about a quarter mile to get to where to park to take the trails to the falls. The women's bathroom was closed but the men's open. Not sure what was up with that, maybe because it's winter. Either way it was clean and accessible, FLOOR IS DANGEROUSLY SLIPPERY, so be careful. View of upper fall was beautiful. Kids liked the trek to the falls through the snow more than anything.

I was looking for a good hike and this was recommended by an individual in Lewisburg. While it was not really a hike I am thankful I took the trip out. The trail is very well maintained; however, the steps can be slippy so you really want to be careful when going down the stairs. I took the "trail" the entire way to the lower falls and took my time at both the middle and lower falls. The round trip only took about 35-40 minutes. There are certainly a lot of steps to take so if you have someone that is not in good shape you want to be careful as the walk down is simple but there are close to 400 steps when coming back from the lower falls. If you are really looking to do some hiking this is not it but if you have 30-40 minutes and want to see some beautiful spots in nature I definitely recommend this stop. One thing that was concerning was the signs posted that said to not leave valuables in your vehicle as common thieves frequent the area.

Very nice falls. What i liked was on the lower falls you can go under them. I wished I was wearing a suit though. Very cool.

All three falls are gorgeous! The boardwalks are very well maintained and make the trip easier. The hike to the last falls is pretty strenuous, but well worth it. Allow at least an hour for the round trip.

Like most of West Virginia, the Falls of Hills Creek is a very beautiful area. Many sections of the boardwalk have been replaced and it's a nice hike to the lower falls. Lots of steps to climb back up! There were several people enjoying this area when we hiked in October.

Falls of Hills Creek is a lovely area to go hiking. Be aware that there are many stairs to get to the lower falls, which means many stairs to climb back up. But it is well worth it, the hike on the trails that follow Hills Creek are very is to follow and are surrounded by wild and wonderful West Virginia forest. It is also good if you can go after there has been rain since that affects the amount of water going over the falls.

The falls are gorgeous. Easy accessibility for folks who are able to hike. Its not that difficult of a hike for someone is reasonably good health.

This falls is located just off a Scenic Byeway on Rt 39/55. There is a small parking area at the trailhead, and a typical "Outhouse" for a park area. The first part of the walk to the falls is paved, and after the first falls then you are either walking on a nice dirt trail or a wooden walkway. It is about a 1 mile walk to the last, and prettiest, falls but there are a lot of steps. Toward the last falls is a set of metal stairs that are sort of open and a bit steep if you are one of those people who don't like heights or being able to see through the stairs. The forest is really nice and quiet, the falls very pretty, and it's a nice walk as long as you don't mind the steps. Very pretty area.

The falls are great. The middle one has the best view. They have an overlook that is in a nice position for photos more direct than side. The first falls is hard to see from viewing area. You are looking down on it.Sadly that's the only one you can see with wheelchair access.Loved the 63 foot drop on the last one.Trail is nice.It has many, many steps. If you plan to visit with the elderly be sure they can handle all the many steps and incline coming back.A bit harder than the one at Blackwater Falls. There are areas to rest if needed. All in all a very nice trip.

All three falls are beautiful but if your up to it walk to the third falls it is worth it. Be ready for lots of steps.
