the apollo civic theatre

What a grand theatre this must have been at one time! Sadly, it needs quite a bit more maintenance and work than it is currently receiving. We were there for the Dance Dimensions Spring ballet recital, Anne in Rhyme Land. We loved the old theatre feel and ambiance. I appreciated the casual, friendly demeanor of the staff, and the prices at the snack bar were very reasonable. The famous Apollo theatre popcorn was a bit salty, but the kids loved it! There is so much potential here, and this place could truly shine with a bit of elbow grease! I would really love to see this place returned to its former glory, but it is going to require massive resources (both time and money). The upstairs ballroom, especially, was sorely lacking maintenance. In some places the floorboards were almost rotting right out from under our feet. I did seriously question the structural soundness of that top floor! The theatre was quite filthy, and a BIG thank you to all those volunteers from the studio for spending hours of your time cleaning and scrubbing the place down to make it more suitable for use. Another thing that really needs some attention is the restroom facilities. If you are planning on coming here for a show, do yourself a favor and use the restroom at home before you arrive. I could tell they had been spruced up in an attempt to update, and it was tidied up. The floor tiles are loose and missing in some places. There are only two tiny stalls, and privacy would be next to impossible here. All in all, I would love to attend another show here, and I look forward to seeing this place shine in the future!

Went to see Blue Ridge Community &Technical College perform "Our Town". What a heart experience and a beautiful 100 year old theater. They have play as well as talent show at very inexpensive prices. Will be back!
