seneca rocks discovery center

Very nice museum/visitors center! The glass wall facing Seneca Rocks is fantastic and there is comfortable seating where you can contemplate the rocks and the nature surrounding it. This area is particularly comfortable in the hot summer where you can remain indoors and still enjoy the scenery.Just out the door there are scopes where you can (for a few cents) observe the rocks closer up from your position and watch climbers scale up and down. The rangers there are quite helpful and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend you stopping by there...it is a pleasant place with more going on inside than you would think. We stop by every time we are in the area and never fail to see something new.

This center is EXCELLENT! I loved the rangers, who gave us lots of helpful information (after the fact, unfortunately, in the case of hiking off the back side of Seneca Rocks, hah!) about the area and places to go in the Seneca & Spruce Knob region.It was clean, open, fresh, and inviting. The large topographical map to help orient you reminded me of Mt. Rainier National Park's map. The West Virginia books, maps, and guides were excellent resources as well. Great for native West Virginians and visitors alike!

great views of mountain climbers and good history info about military training during WW2. good roads in area for motorcycle riding.

this is a very nice discovery center with a lot to look at about the local area and wilderness. a must see if you are at Seneca Rocks

Views of huge rocks, cliffs, mountains, saw 2 bear cubs in the woods, had a great lunch at a nearby, historic restaurant. To get to the observation area at Seneca rocks, you must go early in the day, & bring lots of fluids, & maybe protein bars, It's a rigorous climb UP the trail, & the rangers leave @ 4:30pm. No cell phone service, so you are on your own! So go early, take it slow, & drink. We got dizzy, & a little queasy from the altitude. But it was a great experience.

A surprisingly nice nature center considering it is more of a hiker/rock climber area than a tourist attraction. Nothing to add to the other descriptions about the center itself. The area has many very nice roads to explore, especially for motorcyclists, and there are several small local towns within 20-30 minutes drive that have good local restaurants to try.

We could see a hiker at the top! Great displays here. Very informative! This center wasn't around when I was a kid and we came to see Seneca Rocks; so, it was fun to stop in.

This is an excellent facility and a must visit if in the area! They have special events on some weekends and have a nice gift. The restrooms are also well kept

Information was very good. The center itself is pretty new and has some paths which lead off into the distance for those on 2 feet, 4 feet or wheels. View scope on terrace lets you track the rock climbers. Great for children with hands on activities. Avoid the traffic, wires and people and come here to take your photos of this beautiful natural landscape.

Great visit. Very informative and a lot of things to do for children. I learned a great deal about the mountains and recent discoveries.

Misty day, so we didn't do the hiking trail. We also wanted to go horseback riding, but didn't check on it due to being wet out. Wished the weather was better, will have to visit again. However, the visitor center is pet friendly.

The center was very nice and it was also very kid friendly. There was a section of the building just for kids to do activities. My 3 year old son colored and played with puzzles. We also liked the wooden rocking chairs looking out the larges glass windows at the rock formations.

This is a very nice center with plenty of information and a cute gift shop. The Park Rangers were friendly and helpful. And of course you couldn't beat the view of the rocks from the back deck area.

While we didn't go in the Discovery Center itself, the park is very nice. Clean, well kept, and the views are incredible!

This place was so neat. We loved walking around. Borrowed binoculars from one of the staff and got to watch climbers on Seneca Rocks, right out the huge windows in back. Awesome-ness! Lots of cool gift ideas. Lots of good books. Gifts very reasonably priced. I got two glasses, a t-shirt, stickers, magnets, books, a Melissa and Doug floor puzzle...all for $40. For real! Nice discovery info for kiddos. Loved it! Magnificent view of Seneca Rocks. Front row seating. Free! Can hike up trail to the rocks from a great set of stairs and walkway from the museum!
