My boyfriend and I visit Snowshoe every year for the chili cookoff and one of the things we look forward to is taking the lift down to Shavers Lake, and then riding the lift back up, and then taking the lift down again, and then back up... We just like riding the lift a whole lot. We only visit Snowshoe in the summer since we hate snow, but the lift rides are always one of the coolest parts of the trip. We load up a small backpack cooler with a few bevvies, hop on the lift, and kick back to watch the mountain bikers fly down the mountain. Then we wander around the lake for a bit and repeat the process over and over until we either run out of beer or get hungry. The Boathouse is cool if you need a potty break, snacks or drinks down at the lake. One tip, the bars at the top of the mountain will sell you beers with the caps on, the Boathouse won't, so plan accordingly. Also, don't be a douche and chuck cans or bottles off of the lift, you'll ruin it for the rest of us who like to booze it up responsibly! If you book through Snowshoe you get a 3 day "fun pass" that works as your lift ticket all weekend included in the price of your room. Bonus!
This trail was beautiful. It was like going through a fairy tale forest and expecting to see a gnome or two. Very scenic and easy to hike. Afterwards, you can snack at the Boathouse. It was summer so we could ride Ballhooter Lift down to the lake and back.
It's not that it's a bad trail... it's just that there are so many amazing trails to explore in nearby Monongahela National Forest.
