Nice little museum. We saw Mardi Gras exhibit and really enjoyed it. Just leave a little donation with the crawfish upon leaving.
Well worth the visit. Small and friendly. We went to hear a talk about the traditions of Cajun Mardi Gras.
The park rangers welcomed us and sent us into the display area then went about fixing their printer. We said goodbye as we left. The displays within the small museum area are informative. The rest of the floor space has a small gift shop and seems to be used by locals for crafting.
Thorough, informative, fascinating delve into Acadian history and culture. Takes about 45 minutes to appreciate it all. Well worth taking the time.
And all of this was free on a Saturday afternoon. Combine this with several other attractions in Eunice and your day will be filled.
We have visited the center twice and have thoroughly enjoyed the programs they offer. We learned about Cajun culture from a knowledgeable and very funny college professor. We heard local residents talk about the traditional courir, when Mardi Gras celebrants travel from farm to farm collecting chickens and other ingredients for a communal meal. At our last visit, we heard Bubba Hebert, a delightful 13-year-old Cajun musician carrying on the tradition of his grandfather and great-grandfather. We also tasted tasso sausage with "red gravy," a tomato sauce, prepared by Jordy, a local teacher who loves to cook and volunteers at the center. This place is a community treasure. I am so pleased that my tax dollars support this institution.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff operates this small facility maintaining the high standards of National Park Service sites. Exhibits skillfully portray the prairie Cajun experience.
Well worth a visit for their very extensive and informative displays on Cajun history and culture. The sequester has forced them to suspend their musical programs. But we saw an interesting film on the expulsion of the Acadians and they still have cooking demonstrations. Run to the high standards we expect from the National Park Service.
Run by the Park Rangers, this little center has a small exhibit on the history of the Cajuns, and cooking and quilting demonstrations, and live music on a Saturday afternoon.
The Prarie Acadian Cultural Center is one of four sections of the Jean Lafitte National Park. While we were there they had a demonstration about Cajun music where I was able to ask questions about the difference between the Cajun accordion and the piano accordion. Following the music demonstration there was a cooking demonstration where we learned about boudin, the local sausage product.
Everything to like and nothing to dislike. The park rangers there are friendly and knowledgeable. We were 8 ladies in jour group and we watched a movie about the Acadians. Very informative!Saturdays they have a cooking demonstration which was very good.
