Interesting and interactive diplays about culture, area, food and music. Great for adults and kids alike. Very friendly staff!
I took a little group of children there in July. We arranged it ahead of time so we had our own tour guide. There were movies and interactive exhibits that kept the kids entertained and engaged the whole time. They loved going down in the salt mind. Would defiantly recommend for anyone visiting our lovely city. Great information on New Iberia and it's people.
We learned a lot. The guides were friendly. The introductory video has updated and really informative. Lots of fun activities.
Well done, very up to date exhibits . Tour guide was very nice lady!!! Clear and concise film history of Bayou Teche area.
I liked the presentation of the facts and history of Bayou Teche and the area. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the Antebellum History.
This museum is worth a visit, very nice grounds. There are much better examples of the old plantation houses up on the Mississippi but Bayou Teche is also interesting.
A couple of us had some time on our hands so decided to visit here. Admission is only $5 and it was worth the price. This isn't a big place but what they have is interesting. May not be good for your children or evemn teenagers but adults should enjoy it. There is some hands on exhibits which are also interesting. They do have a Planitarium which I would have loved to stay for but we ran out of time.
I grew up in New Iberia and was thrilled to finally get the chance to visit the Bayou Teche Museum. It provided great history into the area and brought back great memories. This area is home to some of the greatest people in the world. It is nice to have a museum dedicated to them and is truly worth a visit to give you a greater appreciation of the origins of their traditions and how the bayou itself formed the geographic backdrop of the area's successes.
Wandering around New Iberia we decided to stop in here. They have made the best of highlighting their history. The salt mine is not to be missed.
Before touring Shadows on the Teche we watched a short video about the history of the place. I enjoyed this because it's hard for me to stand for long periods of time - would much rather sit and listen than standing in house on the tour. Bought a nice little painting in the gallery and a child's book in the souvenir section. Had cookbooks, postcards, art for sale. Very nice.
Right in the middle of beautiful, historic downtown New Iberia. The museum is interesting and beautifully done!
My wife and I are fans of small museums, and so when we had some extra time in New Iberia, we thought we should definitely check this museum out. It was pretty informative about the history of the area, though the exhibit about moonshine seemed tacked on without much context as to how it fit into that history. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but it's a nice stop if you're in the area; say, to visit the Tabasco factory.
Included with the admission price is a short video about Bayou Teche. The museum has a variety of exhibits inside. One exhibit is about prohibition and the manufacture of moonshine. There is one about music and the effect different cultures had on the various music in south Louisiana. Another one is about education and, just before this, is an old slot machine. There is a lot of information about various riverboat sinkings. This is an interesting museum to visit. It will only take about an hour of one's time.
