Definitely worth checking out, there are a lot of vendors that set up around the perimeter. Check out the church to one side and the Mississippi River and Cafe Du Monde to the other side.
Jackson Square is the centerpiece of the French Quarter with street vendors, horse drawn carriages and musicians. This is what New Orleans is all about from the tourist perspective. The park is a great place to unwind and relax or just pass the time.
Lots of action in this heart of the city. Plenty of music and art. Beautiful church and a park-like atmosphere. Nice statues. Carriage rides. Fun.
A beautiful place to have a picnic! Street music surrounds the entire park. Many artist have their artwork on display and so much of it is so interesting to look at!
must visit to see the artist and boutiques around the squareseveral cafes and beautiful building surround the park
Apart from anything else it is pleasant just strolling the streets to get to Jackson Square. Once there, savour the atmosphere and the history. Of course it is tourist- tacky, but making allowances for that, where else in the USA do you get this cultural melange.
Even on a rainy Friday, this was a fun place to be. There are street performers, artists, pop up jazz bands, and lots of people from around the country there to be happy and have a fun time. Grab a cocktail and wander around. It's nice to be in an open space after the crowded sidewalks of the French Quarter. Everyone is friend.y, so it is fun to just strike up a conversation with those around you.
Close to lots of the main attractions in the French Quarter. Street performers and artist display their work here. It's the place to catch a carriage ride for a guided tour of the Quarter. Lots of restaurants and museums surround the square. In front of the St. Louis Cathedral. To me, the center of the French Quarter, and I never tire of the sights, sounds and food.
While I've visited this historic landmark numerous times since my childhood, it became an enormously special place when my fiancé proposed there. We have taken several trips there throughout our relationship, and have always stopped to take the "corny" tourist picture there. It only made since that if he really wanted to suprise me, this would be the spot. It's just so beautiful no matter the time of year as it is such a hub of various activities. Don't forget to stop by to see what's shaking...you might even catch me there with my soulmate taking yet another picture to add to our digital scrapbook!
There is something for every taste aound Jackson Square and it is large enough so that if you aren't fond of boisterous music on one side, you can find a quiet spot to relax not far away. Beautiful old trees and classic architecture and you are also in the middle of so many options that are must-see -- Cafe du Monde, museums, St. Louis cathedral, shops, musicians, fortune tellers, horse drawn carriages. Seems like the heart of this unique city.
How can you rate Jackson Square any less than 5 stars? It's a historic place that you just can't miss if you're in New Orleans. Museums, shops, a park, St. Louis Cathedral, Cafe du Monde, the Steamboat Natchez, talented street performers - everything's there! This square can be your base of operations and a great first stop during your trip to New Orleans.
