cherokee ridge alpine trail

The Cherokee Alpine Ridge Trails around Lake Martin in Alabama are gorgeous. You can hike for as little as a mile or as long as eleven miles depending on where you hike. We recently hiked the Deadening Trail which we found to be beautiful with many rock formations and scenic paths along the lake. The trails are all well maintained and marked. The Smith Mountain Tower trail is also a lovely trail with scenic views from the top of the refurbished fire tower. Dogs are allowed, if leashed on some trails. The Deadening Trail is not suitable for younger children as there are some steep places with drop offs near the water's edge. We always take our own walking sticks and water.
