I enjoy going to the Old State Bank because of its history. It is much more interesting if you can tour the inside also.
We went after Halloween and got a wonderful tour. i was too late for the ghost hunts but next year I'll be there!
This is a great place to learn about the history of Decatur and a great place to have photos made for graduating high school seniors and brides.
this old building happened to be right next door to our hotel! it was built in 1833! it is so beautiful- especially at night-
The capstone of the Bank Street area of wonderful shops and eateries. Rich in history and a wonderful staff to share stories and information about the Old State Bank.
Beautiful building and grounds. The side garden is nice and a good place to sit and enjoy the shade. The interior of the bank is dated and needs refurbishing. It has interesting antiques and history. A nice place for a photo op in front of a Southern style building
The docent gives an excellent history lesson of old Decatur from pre-civil war to shortly after. You will enjoy it. Good for children aged 10 and older.
Right in the middle of town is a prime bit of history. It's one of a very few building still standing from the Civil war era. Folks interested in history may find this a gem and well worth the few minutes it takes to see this small building.
Very old brick building located in what they call Old Decatur. It survived the Civil War and has lots of history associated with it. Not much on the inside but outside offers great photo ops. Huge white columns and beautiful water fountain get lots of attention.
An important part of Decatur's history. Not much to see here, but it doesn't cost and if your are on Bank St you might as well go in
The story of how this was built is interesting along with Old Decatur history. The fountains and landscaping make a beautiful place for pictures.
It's a brick building with brick paving on the street in front of it. Nice enough to stop and get some pictures in front of. One of the only buildin's not burned by northern troops.
Alabama's oldest surviving bank, now restored. A sister to the old bank on Huntsville's courthouse square. An ideal starting point for tourists in Decatur, Alabama. Pick up Decatur tourist brochures here. Bank tours available. Phone 256-350-5060. Website www.OldStateBank.com I did not see a restroom, but found one at the Tennessee Valley Pecan Company shop a couple of blocks to the south. Bank street has about a three-block tourist shopping area, starting at the bank. Several antique stores and some gift shops.
