landmark park

Tho there isn't a 7 day of operation there of the 'working' farm, this park/ag museum has a lot to offer. The yearly membership is well worth the low price. The special programs with hands on demonstrations, that you can really participate in are amazing, when they put them on. I remember cranking an ice cream maker until my arms hurt, took me back to my childhood, when we didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing. Both of which are available in locations at the park. The only improvement I would see here is a working farm with permanent livestock. If you are a member there is no fee to enter the park.

I googled this park and decided to visit on my way out of Dothan. I wasn't sure what to expect but when i arrived, it was a beautiful thing. The fee is great for all that the park has to offer. It was very peaceful, educational and adventurous. I did not stay long to be able to explore the entire park, but i plan to come back one day in the future.

Even in mid winter this was a lovely place to visit. My leashed dogs were welcomed (as long as you pick up and duties they make) and the volunteer staff is phenomenal.

Landmark Park in Dothan, Alabama has a really great seed swap every January... usually on National Seed Swap Day. They have the swap in their Activities Barn. They had refreshments, prize drawings and lots of seeds to share.

Great place to spend the day and they also have a website with a calendar of events. They really have some great events throughout the year. The nature trails are kept up and the grounds are maintained beautifully throughout the year. This is an absolute to visit if you and your family enjoy the outdoors. Check out the website.

Very neat place. Could really feel the history in these places!!! Nice quiet setting with not a lot of people around so you can actually stop and read the signs and actually get a good grasp of everything and how they lived without having to feel crowded or in someone's way! Love the actual garden and cotton field! Actually took a piece home.:)

We attended an ice cream social that the park was putting on and had a great time! We arrived a few hours early so that we could go on the nature walk and see the exhibits before it started. The nature walk is an elevated boardwalk that is build over a creek/marsh area with pagodas full of taxidermy animals from the area. Except one pagoda which has live snakes and if you get there at the right time you can watch them being fed. The creek has a huge turtle that was at least 20 lbs and lots of other little turtles. The old buildings on the property give an interesting look back in time to how life used to be. The general store offers great snacks and drinks with friendly service. The grounds are well maintained and The staff is incredibly friendly.

Not sure how or when these other reviews were posted, but I visited this place November 10, 2014 with my Mother and her friend who could not walk far. When we paid admission, we were not advised that the Agricultural Museum was closed (where I thought both ladies could walk). The park appeared deserted save for a few workers. There are lots of other places where one can walk and not have to pay a $4/person fee for the privilege. There were no animals on display and no signs of life other than us and a few workers.

landmark Park is a big place so for the elderly it may be a bit of a walk so be prepared. Kids will love it. Very educational. Old farm houses and equipment to see gardens a nature boardwalk into the woods much to see. They have attractions off and on during the year too with different types of entertainment singing demos and so on.

This park is off 431, just between Dothan and Headland. It would make a great place to stop and picnic on the way to the beach or can be a fun afternoon for families with children. There is a section which is like an old farmstead. There's a dog trot style house, a barn with several farm animals and fields where local crops, like peanuts, are grown and harvested using methods from your grandparents and great-grandparents time. A little further along are some old buildings which have been moved to Landmark. These include an old pharmacy, a school house, a lovely church and more. Some days they will be staffed and things like Cokes, ice cream and old fashioned toys are for sale, but some days they are closed. Might be better to call ahead if you are interested in those type things. There's a line of trees behind this area and behind that is one of those volunteer-built playgrounds. It's a nice big one with a picnic pavilion beside it. There's not much shade in the actual playground though, so I'd suggest a cool day or choose morning or late afternoon to visit. A "party barn" nearby is available for rent for big groups, weddings, parties, etc. A museum at the back of the property has some interesting old farm tools in it, but it is not always open - again, a call might be in order. Follow the road past the church and you'll find a shaded picnic area and the main office. There's a little gift shop in there, as well as a planetarium. Behind this is a wooded area. A boardwalk (which is handicap and stroller accessible) winds through this, taking visitors around a wetland area. Bring some bread and throw it into the water in the places where it opens up and you'll probably have many turtles swim up to get it - they are accustomed to this! We once saw a GIANT loggerhead turtle doing this. There are some shelters along the boardwalk where local wildlife is exhibited in taxidermy. One of the shelters, though, contains aquariums of live snakes. Like just about all parks I go to, this one is always trying to fundraise and there are some things that need updating, but all in all its very clean and offers a lot. Admission is very reasonable or you can purchase a family membership and come anytime during the year. The park often offers special programs (summertime music concerts, campouts, camps, speakers, storytime, etc.) I suggest checking their their website if you're intending to visit. It would be a great place to stop and let kids stretch their legs if you're driving through - you can stay 20 minutes or all afternoon.

I lived in Dothan for four years and never heard of this spot until recently. It's a very beautiful, peaceful place. Kids will enjoy the animals they have out on display. Nice trails and very scenic. They have a bunch of lily fields next to the gazebo. Not too many people were there when I went, which made it that much more peaceful. If you're ever in Dothan, you need to give this place a visit. It's only $4 to get in.

My brother held his daughters wedding here it is a wonderful spot to hold a wedding or other event with a large group of folks. There were approx. 200 folks there and there was room for more. the building is a well air-conditioned rustic looking barn it is quite beautiful.

loved the deck walkway nature trail and the old buildings to explore. A friend had a wedding here in the center gazebo years ago it was so breathtakingly beautiful an excellent choice for a ceremony.

Went to take pictures with the family. There were not too many people visiting that day. We had a wonderful time.

This is a wonderful place for a family adventure. Tons of things to do and many special events throughout the year.great value.
