Fantastic beer! The tour is free and is very interesting. The tap room is small but nice and serves several of their beers.
Good beer, kinda funky place. We loved it. Uhhh, did I mention good craft beer??? Missed the tour but outside on the porch at sunset, even in February was awesome.
Their ipa is the best thing they make. Music was too loud the other night. Truck stop honey is their well known beer. There are however plenty of beers In the same category that outshine it.
If someone had told me five years ago we would have a brewery in Gadsden, I would have suggested they seek medical help, quickly. But here it is! Meeting friends in the Tap Room to relax, hanging out on the patio or attending (or hosting) an event at Back Forty is always so much fun. Another reviewer complains about being turned away because of a private event, and that's a valid -- albeit to me not a negative -- point. Lots of groups want to have events here, so call before you come. And call ahead to find out about tours. This is an operational brewery, so there are business and safety issues to consider. Jason Wilson, Tripp Collins and the rest of the Back Forty crew are gracious and accommodating, and they are assets to our community!
Finally get over there during their actual hours and they turn me and my valentine's date, on the eve of, away at the door because they were having a private party. Another local restaurant worker said Back Forty was always doing that. Their beer in the stores is good, yes, but overpriced. Its the most expensive ale and travels the least to get to the shelves?!
My fiance were visiting the area and dropped in on Thursday night for tap room hours. The beer was fantastic and so was the entertainment! I believe her name was Andrea, but she was a local guitarist who sang her heart our and provided some great entertainment to pair with our brews. We both had the Fence Post Season Ale and loved it! Although we didn't get to tour the brewery, there was some great folks to meet from the area that work there as well as some amazing local art on the walls that was for sale. It's a go see when you're in the Gadsden area!!!
We were lucky to visit on a Saturday, the only day they give behind the scenes tours. They are brewing on other days Jason did ours and gave us a very detailed tour. It's an impressive set up - very modern. They open at 3 pm.
