Great place to spend an hour or so. Good displays of habitat, animals and fish of that area. Also have a little gift shop with books by local authors, maps and brochures; the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. It is in a nice big building paid for with our tax dollars - and the bathrooms are nice and clean (a big bonus in Kotzebue) - so go take advantage of it.

The NW Arctic Heritage Center offers visitors a great opportunity to learn about ecosystems and people of Alaska's Arctic region... The well-designed and beautifully constructed displays provide excellent opportunities for visitors to discover interesting facts/information about these unique environments. They also have an extensive collection of DVDs, which you can request for viewing in their theater too. There is a small bookstore that has a good variety of items as well... and the Center is located within a 5 minute walk from the Kotzebue airport terminals, so this make it possible for a visit while waiting for flights to/from the villages, remote recreational areas, etc. Be sure to see the NW Arctic Heritage Center -- you will enjoy this great place!

I spent a couple of hours in the Heritage Center and thoroughly enjoyed listening to the stories and reading about the history of Kotzebue. The museum is quaint, yet full of character.Following my museum tour, I visited the gift shop where I had a very lovely conversation with the clerk and purchased several fantastic souvenirs. My favorite purchase at the gift shop was a variety of postcards - they are designed to appear vintage with really great prints of Eskimos. I love sending postcards and this was the only place in town that had some.

This place has very interesting displays and some video's. The people working there are extremely knowledgable and passionate about the arctic heritage presented there. Well worth stopping by and spending a little time.

I had some time to kill after my flight in to town, so I stopped in. They have some really nice displays. Unfortunately I wasn't around for their movie series or classes. Sounds like a great place to learn.

In the Northwest Village of Kotzebue, Alaska lies a true gem to visit. The Northwest Arctic Heritage Center is a museum with a wealth of knowledge regarding both the heritage and history of the culture there, as well as, geological information about the region. The facility is run by the National Park Service, and the staff is very knowledgeable regarding the four national parks and preserves that are very close to this center. I highly recommend it as a must see if you are ever in Kotzebue!
