old independence regional museum

This is a great museum for such a little town. The people who put this together did a great job and putting it in an old WPS armory just adds to the history. I spent 1.5 hours watching the videos and looking at the exhibits. There's also a small library for researchers. If you have any time at all while in Batesville, I highly recommend

We were doing some genealogical research and the staff was very helpful. They directed us to the right books, maps and documents and made copies of everything for us to take with us. As an added bonus there was a traveling photographic exhibit that fascinated us besides their permanent display of artifacts and history of the area. Plan to stay less than an hour if your just a tourist and all day if you are a researcher.
