My husband and I were recommended to this cave by some friends who live around locally. We weren't told much except that when we said we wanted to explore a cave, this was the first one that came to mind.Driving up to the location, you can immediately see the entrance of the cave itself and a rustic cabin that doubles up as the gift shop and admissions area. Paul the owner, greeted us and sold us tickets ($11 each) for a scheduled tour, which we needed to wait seventeen minutes for. While we killed time in and out of the store, we got acquainted with their family dog, Sam, a very congenial mixed breed that kept us company while we enjoyed the warmth of the summer sun. When the time came, Paul came out and we began the tour. Though all of us came prepared, it is fair to note, wearing shoes with a decent walking grip, and a cardigan or light jacket is recommended, as the cave is kept with a natural clay pathway, and it does descend quickly into cooler temperatures. Cameras and personal flashlights are heartily encouraged for pursuing any and all details of the cavern's antiquity.Beginning our descent, we were unexpectedly lead by Paul himself as guide into the most intimate and personable tour either I or my husband have ever experienced. With a well oiled speaking voice, our attention was never lost with his thorough knowledge of the cave's fantastic history. The questions we presented he confidently answered from personal experience and polite honesty, leaving us quite dazzled and heartily satisfied. Paul was especially attentive in assuring our footfalls on the uneven pathways and low overhanging ceilings, as personal safety quickly became a foremost priority. Cave enthusiasts will appreciate the preservation alongside current excavations (no cement paths and stalactite dripping ceilings!). While trivia buffs, and families will adore the true to life history behind the caverns themselves. If you're lucky, Sam the dog will even accompany your party, and provide you with his added charm that fits so well amongst the caves (he is a very good dog).Brushing aside your humble first impression, it doesn't take long to get swept up in the adventure of it all. The cave is beautiful, the history rich, and the owners a true delight. It is a place where money is well spent, and understandably recommended. I encourage anyone and everyone to seize the first opportunity you have to stop for a visit. It is an adventure I'm glad I did not miss.
First thing is check their hours and days open by calling or emailing their website was wrong. It's owned by a husband and wife and the Wife gave our tour along with Sam the cave dog. The cave itself is a lot bigger than I expected, it has some great formations and passages. She had some great stories and information. Thanks!
Old Spanish Treasure Cave was excellent!!! The owner gave us the tour and he was great. We could tell by his enthusiasm that he loves the cave and the excitement was addicting. The gift shop has homemade jewelry made by the owners. They are beautiful and well made. We will definitely visit this cave again.
We visited on Sunday, August 4th. we had 11 people in our group. The owners are very nice and knowleadgable of their beautiful cave. We learned alot from the tour about caves and what lies ahead for future visits. The gift shop is cute and not to pricey. I personally would like to see them maintain the property a lil better and some things in the cave like electirc lines and such could be concealed better. walking along it kinda of threw me off some to see a chair in the cave and exposed electric cable. Well worth the stop and tour.
Our family went on this tour and had a really good time. Our 17 year old daughter even enjoyed it (anyone that has a teen daughter will know that this was quite a feat.) I loved the information and the dog was just wonderful.
This is a terrific tour. Very natural cave that hasnt been modified simply for tours. The owner and his wife gave a tremendous amount of personal attention to our little boy., and we loved having their dog join us for parts of the tour (where does he GO anyway?) the history of this place is every bit as intriguing as the cave site itself. This is a terrific way to spend a family day together. We enjoyed it very much and hope to come back again someday soon.
Enjoyed our trip to the cave very much. The history was very fascinating and it's a great place to take your family. If you're looking for a fun place to go in that area, this is the place. The owners were very nice and fun tour guides! A must see :)
This is a great cave tour. The owners of the cave take you on the tour and tell you all about the history of the cave. The cave itself is very interesting it has several types of formations and also several features related to its history. If your in the Area this is a must attraction.
