This home is a wonderful example of colonial architecture. The house has a great history and a solid provenance, having been occupied by members of the Colby family for over 230 years. Despite an extensive remodel in the 1740's, the flavor of the exterior is pure 1600's. This lovely home is open on Saturdays during the summer, and also by appointment. The tour is very low key and interactive. Many interesting artifacts of colonial life can be seen, including a hornbeam barrel, chalices for communion, a large loom, many spinning implements, and more. The central chimney supports five fireplaces. We toured several historic homes on our trip, but this was a personal visit since we are descendants of Anthony Colby, the home's second owner. Kathy and Melissa, who gave us our tour, were wonderful hostesses. Visit their thorough website to get an idea of what there is to see. We found it well worth our time.
