We took our grandsons (teenagers) to the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA over the school vacation (Feb 2015) to see Bill Blagg - Illusionist. We are always overwhelmed by the absolute beauty of the Colonial. Thanks again to all who supplied $$ and energy to restore this one-of-a-kind venue. The show itself was as stunning as the theatre. Bill is a showman in every respect! He was funny and engaged the audience (all ages from gray-hairs to 5-year-olds) in his act often and to great success. The price was right ($15 each) and the show was the right length for any age! Recommend Bill Blagg as well as the Colonial!
Beautiful venue. Great acoustics No bad seat in house but balcony seating is pew style and can get uncomfortable.
This beautifully restored theater and it's gracious ushers was a treat to visit on 11/19/14, when my real intentions were to aquire the free ski passes to Sugarbush and Smugglers Notch. The sound system was great, new carpeting, helpful ushers, and not a bad seat in the house added to the experience. An added bonus was the blizzard we walked out into at 10pm after the show, and drove in it all the way to Goshen.
This gilded old theater has been fully restored and offers some of the best entertainment in the Berkshires. It offers excellent regional entertainment - we enjoyed both jazz and country music concerts there - at excellent prices.
this is a great renuve to see a show either it be a concert or a play great sound…every seat is pretty good
Oct. 2013 Dave Mason at the Colonial Theatre- He was great! We were soo worn out after this concert! LOL (if I had to rate him against 3 Dog Night- he was better!)
We planned our Berkshires trip so we'd be able to attend "A Little Night Music," and we were not disappointed. The production was flawless, thrilling. The theater itself, over a century old and perfectly restored, was an ideal, jewel box setting for the show. One of the volunteer ushers told us that this city of 60,000 suffered a terrible blow when the GE plant closed, costing Pittsfield 10,000 jobs, and the Colonial has played a big part in the remaking of Pittsfield as a tourist destination. Well done!
Love this place. It reminds me of the great old Broadway theaters with its ornate boxes (photo) and two balconies (photo). Thanks to the good people of Pittsfield for seeing the value of this venue. Great place to see a show. We saw "A Little Night Music." We will be back.
good seats and acoustics, pleasantly restored. Prices fair. Old movie/vaudeville house. The front is a twin to the Michelin shop in W. london UK, now I believe a pricey restaurant
The atmosphere, the musical reviews, anything that happens........everything is a treat when you visit the Colonial Theater. I just love to look around at all of the ornate work that went into the theater many years ago. If you're in the Berkshires make sure you don't miss this gem.
We just saw Rick Springfield and it was a great show. Great seats and great sound, what else can you ask for in a venue. Its a beautiful building.
This is a beautiful theater, located in downtown Pittsfield. The city is trying hard to restore its downtown area and the Beacon is a big part of it. You may buy beer and wine in the lobby and bring it into the theater with you. The stadium seating is a big plus for short folks like me, who always struggles to see over the person in front of me. The staff of the Beacon does search people to prevent them for bringing in outside food and drink. I find this policy invasive, to say the least. It is a definite turn-off and no doubt has cost the theater customers who resent the search and seize aspect of going to a movie.
This theater is absolutely gorgeous. Just do not sit in general admission seats. More uncomfortable than sitting in a lawn chair for an hour or two.
This is a very beautiful theater. I would say it's a real cultural gem. Inside it's small and you feel connected to what's happening on-stage. The seats are very comfortable, the sound is great. We were very pleasantly surprised.
the architecture, beautifully restored, makes this venue a real treasure. Hillary Clinton made it part of her tour to "Save America's Treasures" when she was first lady. And show here is worth going to.
