Duxbury Beach Park is very good for a south shore beach but that's it. Generally, flat ocean with small waves, clean sand mostly rocky free and good and safe for families especially young kids. Not a whole lot going on around the area which is nice. (Having lived in Hawaii for 4 years makes me a very tough critic! :) )

Unspoiled, beautiful, quintessential Cape Cod beach. Did you know that at one time, the Powder Point bridge held a Guinness book of world record for longest wooden bridge? A real treasurE, I love it in any season.

Duxbury Beach is a great beach. Visitors parking area is quite large, there are bathrooms, showers, food and one of the best beaches south of Boston - without going over the bridge to Cape Cod. It is a wonderful walking beach during low tide. The water can be cold and the waves can be good for body surfing. A second parking lot (free) is on the west end of the bridge available on a first come first served basis. After a walk over the bridge you are at the residents portion of the beach. Amenities are not quite the same - porta potties and an ice cream truck are it. Same beach, generally less crowded. Can be great fishing off the bridge.

Water is generally cold on the ocean side, but not always. Check the North Atlantic Scuba website for surface water temperature. Bay is much warmer. Usually not much in the way of waves, but wind dependent. Beach slope is very gradual so quite safe. There are guards in the main swim area. Beach can have lots of cobbles, but very variable. You can take a very long walk out to the Gurnet, if a stroll is your thing. Free dog walking permits are available at town hall. Dogs are allowed everywhere but the swim areas near the bridge. Parking can be a pain if you dont have a sticker. There is a small free lot on the west side of the bridge but it fills up early. Beach can be small and crowded at high tide on a hot day. The bay side is nearly completely drained at low tide. Good place to clam if you have a permit.

Luckily I am a resident who can visit ANY time of year, cuz it's EXPENSIVE for a sticker, but a beautiful stretch of beach that is comfortable, clean & relaxing.

Duxbury Beach and Nantasket Beach (in Hull, MA) are the best in the area. What else is there to say? I like Dux Beach better....if the beach conditions aren't great (windy, crowded...) walk to the other side of the parking lot to the bay side and swim in the warmer water with no crowd at all!!!

Duxbury has a wonderful beach, but, if you are not in possession of a permit, do not bother crossing Powder Point Bridge. Your "key" is a current valid Beach Sticker clearly affixed to your windshield. For sure, a Harbor Master Officer will send you back over the bridge if you do not. For one or two days of fun under the sun, your best option would be to travel 3A through Marshfield and pay the lot fee.

Duxbury Beach Park is a beautiful New England beach that allows on sand access and parking for all wheel drive vehicles. I just talked to the town hall and for 2014 the non resident beach permits are available beginning February 18 for $295 until June 1. The permit is valid from April 1 to March 31. The price rises to $325 after June 1.If you get a shellfish permit, you can go clamming and oystering on the harbor side. The permit is $110 for a nonresident and is again valid from April 1 to March 31.The beach is very relaxing and family friendly. The expensive parking permit keeps large crowds away. On the downside, there are some vulnerable species that inhabit the beach (i.e. last year's piping plover controversy) that may keep the beach closed for long periods of time.

Duxbury Beach is a wonderful beach, especially for long walks. Minor negative - some sections of sand have numerous smooth rocks. One section allows four wheel drive vehicles out on it.

Awesome place, we spend every weekend here. Friday night bonfires (out by 10:30pm), dogs w permit and leashed allowed, drive right on the beach with a permit or park for $15 outside the dunes. Restrooms available in the parking lot. None on the drive on beach (none close) Lifeguards on the $15 side, none on the drive on. Great time!

We visited the Duxbury Beach Park recently with our transplanted Long Island daughter. We all needed a beach fix. It's a little tough to find and is not exactly local to Boston but a worth while trip in any case. After you find it you will also find the man taking the parking fees...$15 which is a bit steep. The pavilion offers restrooms (rustic) and a limited snack bar. (BTW, be prepared to take your own trash with you...a sign says so!)The beach is somewhat rocky/sandy which is normal for the area. Lifeguards are very young and in short supply. The water was cold so it wasn't much of an issue. The day we visited was quite windy, though sunny....we lasted about two hours before we decided to head for Plymouth.Nice beach if you need a fix.

Lots of parking for $15 which is reasonable and there are lots of spots so you don't need to arrive early to get it which is nice. The beach is long but rocky and is best at low tide. There are bathrooms and a restaurant on site.
