Minister, Gary was wonderful and kind. We had a wedding there, and I was a reader. He let me rehearse, and complimented me that I did a great job!
I believe we climbed 92 steps to the top. There was a lady who welcomed us and a man who was at the top to give us some history and explain the exceptional view we were seeing.
Any church with a website that says "Come as you are," and shows a pair of sandy feet just has to be great, no matter your religious affiliation or lack thereof. That's me in the latter, but this church, an iconic island structure with its towering white spire, really appeals to everyone, in architecture, history and beliefs. We were there for a wedding, and a more austere yet gorgeous place for one I could not imagine. It's a very popular spot for photographers, and those posing by its floral arched entry way out front. Come, pray and don't worry about leaving the sand at the door.
Climbed the 96 stairs to the top of the tower for a view of the Island on a beautiful clear day. Friendly staff. Love to visit old churches.
Make the trek to the top of the First Congregational Church to get a stupendous view of the entire island. Take a good look at the rest of the church, too. It's got a really interesting history.
Beautiful church with long history. Beautiful view from the top. Well worth climbing the stairs to see the island! Very short walk from Main St.
I always go into whatever churches are open in Nantucket. This one is lovely, a local landmark steeped in island history. Visitors can feel themselves transported into the 1800s.
We paid $5.00 to climb up the staircase for a view of the island. A docent at the top explained the history of the church and pointed out sights of interest. It didn't take long and the view was worth it.
We stumbled upon the church and climbed to the top. The view was gorgeous, but the real treat was the docent who answered our questions and shared some of her life on Nantucket. A great AU to spend time!
Amazing view of the island, unique church and worth popping in to as it's just a few minute from the town centre on foot.
We attended a performance of the Wizard of Oz by the Nantucket Theatre Workshop at Bennett Hall on the church grounds. Extremely well done by local talent.
Just for fun, walk past the Jared and go to this church to view the island by climbing the clock tower to the top where you can see out across the island in all directions. There are binoculars up there as well. Someone is also there to provide historical info. It only costs $5 to go up.
Pay $5 climb the steps and you we have a great view of Nantucket. The gentleman at the top gave us interesting information about the town. Told us the difference between Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. People go to MV to be seen and to Nantucket to not be seen.
Climb the stairs to the top for the best view from land. The church member guides are delightful, and the historic church is great. Go to the back to see the old original sanctuary.
Well worth a visit as the location places it on small hill. From its top, you have 360 degree view. Donation requested is $5.
