This Island is one of the "Best Kept Secrets" in New England. It has miles of unspoiled white sandy beaches, quiet walking paths, a huge conservation area, and a lovely natual country side. It is a wonderful place to escape from a busy life. I loved it there and found a great home near Wasque, that over-looked the tip of Katama Bay and the Ocean. Seeing sunsets from the deck each night, taking long walks, kayaking in the nearby Bay, swimming in the ocean, fishing on Wasque beach--all added up to make this the best vacation ever. I highly recommend Chappaquiddick and especially Wasque. P.S. Being not far from charming Edgartown was another real plus.

We walked down to the pier from the Kelly House to see the infamous bridge where it all happened. Not that impressive but historically significant.

Not much on the island and you should have an at least a 4 wheel drive to go on the roads - a bit rustic.

Better off just watching the On Time Ferry shuttle back and forth. At least that's entertaining, Nothing special to see, go up island to the cliffs and Menemsha instead.

we "ferried" over :-) to Chappaquiddick to see the island. Well, we couldn't get to the lighthouse because our car isn't 4- wheel or all-wheel drive. That was a disappointment. We drove the rutted dirt roads back and parked in the parking lot near the "ferry" and walked the beach... it was great having it mostly to ourselves as it was pretty late in the season. I had wanted to go out to dyke road to see where "the incident" took place, but we didn't bother to try and get there because the roads were a bit rough. Fishermen seem to really like the island however. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in early October and it was pleasant enough, but a bit of a let down that we couldn't get out to the lighthouse. We opted not to pay $9.00 for parking to see the beach on Cape Pogue Wildlife refuge. It was $16.00 to get across the 527' channel to get to Chappaquiddick.

Beautiful, serene--I visited the first week of September. Perfect time of year! I would imagine it would be super busy during summer months. Pick and choose the time of year to make visting pleasurable.

It was interesting just to be in the spot where it all happened. To actually seen and remember the tragedy that happened there.

Wanted to visit here to see the lighthouse at Cape Pogue, so hopped on the "Chappy Ferry" with my car - it is a $6 return ticket ride and the journey takes about 1-2mins. Be warned the queues can be a problem - I was ok going to Chappy but had a good 20mins wait getting back.Once over the roads are a mixture of paved and unpaved.

There is not a whole lot to see on Chappaquidick, but it is an excellent place for a bike ride across the island to the (in)famous bridge where Teddie Kennedy had is unfortunate accident. Along the way you'll find some formal gardens that are worth a stop and a look. Otherwise, the main values of visiting are: 1) to say "I've been there, done that" and 2) to get some decent exercise.

Just a short ferry ride from the main island, this is a side of Martha's Vineyard few see. We biked and had a thoroughly relaxing visit. Beach nearly empty after Labor Day, and quite a different experience presumably before.

Took our bikes on the short ferry to Chappy and cycled a 15-20 minute ride to the beach. Left our bikes on the racks and paid to enter the preserve. Walked to beach front and found ourselves alone with the widest expanse of beach around us. Nothing commercial to see on the island. There's a jeep-like tour available. Must have permit and four wheel drive to go on the beach that way.

Took the ferry ($16) over to Chappaquiddick to have a look around, great if you're house hunting (amazing houses) but you do need a four wheel drive to do all the sight seeing as most of the places were for 4wd only, so we missed out on a few things to do unfortunately.Rated average (more our fault as we didn't have the correct vehicle and felt like we were just driving around and couldn't see much as most of the houses are very private).

Chappaquiddik is probably my favorite beach out of all of the Martha's Vineyard and Chappaquiddik beaches. It is very pretty and the water is usually very calm and great for swimming. I really enjoy riding the little harbor ferry over from Martha's to Chappaquiddik. It also has Mytoi Garden which is a great place to go. I would definitely go to Chappaquiddik if you are on Martha's Vineyard.

If you are planning a Vineyard vacation, be sure to take the ferry to Chappy! It is a wonderful tradition. Barely any traffic, and stunning beaches. If you have an SUV, I would recommend driving right out onto the beach. Allows you to have a prime beach spot!

Family with teenage kids really enjoyed the Trustees Lighthouse tour. You can only go inside the lighthouse if you are part of the tour. The jeep ride though the sand was also a highlight got to see some interesting birds and learned some of the history of Chappaquiddick. Also a ride from the ferry to the Mytoi garden is included if you reserve in advance.
