This is the kind of museum you can go into, get a feeling of escaping, but it does not consume your whole day of site seeing or touring. There is just enough art to get a feel for the community's talent plus the little gift shop and hallway filled with locally made jewelry is fun to peruse! Years ago, I had my daughter's birthday party here and it was a huge success. I have attended lectures, wellness workshops, plays and concerts at the Delaplaine. It serves as a wonderfully creative venue for the town of Frederick. They continue to improve the grounds and parking area each year so it is easier to plan your trip. However, in the old days, parking was free. Now there is a paid parking garage next door so be prepared to add that time element on to your visit if you are driving.

We haven't gone to any of the classes but go to the exhibits. You can build this into a trip to Frederick and the downtown area. They have a nice local art scene.

I have been planning a reception for a non-profit organization to be held at the Delaplaine. It is a beautiful facility in a lovely place in a great town. Best of all, the director of events is the most helpful person on the planet.

We attended a transportation forum in the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center. The center is marvelous -- a real multi-use facility. They have repurposed an old flour mill, retaining some of the old equipment. The meeting facilities are modern and equipped with the requisite technology. There is a lovely crafts shop. The walk along Carroll Creek is just outside the door and the parking garage ($1 for the entire day on Saturday) is next door. But most of all, the staff were terrific and welcoming.

Looking for something cool and free when in Frederick? Walk east along the river walk and find this visual feast. Not only gallery space of rotating exhibits but a beautiful place to sit and view the river area. Nice staff and local and reasonable prices items in gift shop.

Downtown Frederick is a very charming town, lots of brick, old buildings and churches, and a well developed waterfront area. Lots of young people around added a vibrancy, and there is a good deal of history here as well. Walking around Frederick I stopped at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center, and it was wondeful. The staff was friendly, and it was a free way to see museum class art. Additionally I was lucky enough to discover that every first Saturday there are wines and refreshments offered and the galleries throughout town stay open late. Artists are around to offer insight and answer questions, and there are many friendly people enjoying the artwork. I hope to return the first Saturday in May!
