My friend and I came to the winery on a Monday. We shared a bottle of their Malbec. It was delicious. They have hershey kisses all over the winery. So of course we helped ourselves to some. The ladies at the winery were so friendly and helpful in helping us pick a wine that fit both my friend and my desired wine. Best of all there was free pizza on Monday nights. We were so lucky to have walked in and had dinner and wine for a total of $18!! Plus the hershey kisses as dessert. I've been to many wineries. This one had a nice atmosphere, was spacious and cozy at the same time, and had such friendly service. I would recommend for a date, girls day, or small group get together. Also look for grou-on/livingsocial deals. I just got one for my next visit!
Its a small batch in house winery inside a strip mall. The tasting/store is tastefully decorated with a wine theme of course. Do the wine tasting for a fee. Then buy a bottle or stay and continue to try a few more wines. The wine is decent, not great but I am a Chateau Ste Michelle fan so its hard to match most of their stuff. So if you want to be a wine snob, don't go here. But if you like wine and like the fact local people try hard to make wine worth trying and buying, then this is your place.
Very attentive, friendly, helpful staff. Great wine! Reasonable prices. Wish they had some food though.
At first, we weren't sure what to expect from a winery located in a shopping center! We had a fabulous date night and plan on coming back. Staff is so friendly and welcoming. We ordered a cheese plate, and they encourage you to bring in your own food or order take out from a local restaurant. We will be back with our friends!
Did not expect much, knowing that the winery was actually located within a strip mall. But upon our arrival, we found the staff very knowledgeable and pleasant. The winery maintained a significant variety of different wines. Our selections did not disappoint. I would definitely recommend to friends.
I recently purchased a Groupon for a visit to The Winery at Olney. The deal - including a tasting of five wines, a stemless wineglass and a store credit - was too good to pass up. When I looked up the driving directions, I briefly regretted my impulse buy. The Winery at Olney appeared to be in a strip mall surrounded by Hair Cuttery, Harris Teeter, Subway and more.I made the drive anyways, and am so glad that I did. We arrived in the early afternoon and there were just a few other small groups at the tasting bar. We were greeted and seated and given a list of red, white, fruit and dessert wines from which to choose our five.I chose a Riesling, a Malbec, Montepulciano, Barolo and a Peach Chardonnay titled "Georgia Ave." Each was good, but none suggested that it would be something that I would long remember.I will remember, however, the background briefing from Dale (our tasting professional) who was friendly and knowledgeable and told us that the "urban winery" had celebrated its one-year anniversary in September 2013. I will also remember how the tasting room slowly filled with people who were clearly enjoying themselves and staff who greeted many in a way that suggested I had walked into a "Cheers"-like neighborhood bar.We were having such a nice time that I ordered two bottles of wine - the Georgia Ave. Peach Chardonnay and a Rose. We opened the White Merlot at the bar (they re-cork) and ordered a cheese & crackers plate and settled in to have a great afternoon visit. It's a bit of a drive, but well worth the effort. I really wish there were a similar urban winery at National Harbor or Alexandria. I'd be a regular!
The setting for the Winery at Olney may not be what you think of when you think of a winery, it's actually next to a restaurant in a shopping center, but inside is comfortable the servers are knowledgeable and friendly, and the wines are yummy. We have been to this winery twice and both times, we were impressed with their wines, and have had informative friendly servers. This winery purchases grapes from vineyards around the world (Napa Valley, Tuscany, Chile, etc.),. So for a reasonable price, you can have wine made from tuscan grapes, but created locally. They have over 30 wines, so there is really something for everyone. Their reds are all very smooth. I think my favorites are their fruit wine blends. And the Raspberry Chocolate Port is an excelled dessert wine.We invited our friends to try their wines at our anniversary get together. Our server Rara, took excellent care of us and made sure we had what we needed. She was very patient with our rambunctious group. After our tasting, she saw that we moved to a nice table for the stragglers who were staying behind to enjoy just one more glass of wine with us.
