Already I was fortunate enough to be able to do 2 bicycle tours with Bikeventures. I did the city tour and was shown around in the city on bicycle! We went to places I would never have been able to find myself! It was a great cultural experience. I got a good idea of the town and the places of interest. Very useful, as I was new in town. On bike you have the perfect speed to see enough without going to fast! The second tour I did, was the Dunga tour: WOW! cycling into rural area to a village of fisherman! On our way we visited Impala sanctuary- well worth a visit! Cycling further we stopped at some interesting places and were introduced to Kenyan live in the country. In Dunga we got on a boat and went Hippo spotting, It was a happening, going into the Wet land and being close to Hippo’s! Back in the village we received explanation on the handling of the fish that were caught and had a traditional meal (fish, of course) for lunch. The stop at Kiboko bay on the way back was very relaxed- all together a great cultural and nature day out! I can certainly recommend the bicycle tours of Bikeventures!
Riding a bike in a foreign country is always an adventure. And when this country is Kenya, it sure is. We decided to do the Dunga-tour with Bikeventures. We asked for the possibilities to do the tour with our twins (age 5). Bikeventure said no problem, they purchased two children s bikes specially for them.To get rid of the nerves (driving left, on dirt roads in Africa), we first went to a traffic school next to the office where we could practice a little. This was the first happening... we and specially the kids attracted a lot of attention. Accompanied by two guides, the ride took us through calm streets towards the Impala Sanctuary and then on to the Dunga-fishermen village. Here a boat took us to lake Victoria to see a Hippo-family. Because the kids did not ride their bikes very fast, and they took a lot of attention during the way, it was almost lunchtime. The ride back to Kisumu was too long, so the guides arranged a great lunch in Dunga. Off course fish. The bike tour is a nice and relaxed way to visit Dunga and the Sanctuary and while riding you have a slow glance at Kenya society.
