On every holiday experienced travellers know they will likely be taken advantaged of.That's par for the course. But Mamacitas set a new standard on that count. When I return home I'll provide all the shocking details. For now, all I can say is avoid, unless you don't work hard for your money and you like throwing it away.

I agree with all the 5-star reviews!! Mamasitas, Dingy Dock, and Zaco's Tacos are 3 excellent places to eat. Mamacitas was where we chose to eat dinner, lunches at other two establishments. Great daily specials at Mamacitas, excellent service too. Enjoyed dinner, location on waters edge, and atmosphere at Mamacitas. Have fun parking (suggest going over nearby bridge and finding spot to left or right).

We came here after visiting The Dingy Dock a couple nights ago. The menu here is infinitely better, the service was island standard but ok. It was no where near as crowded as DD a much better vibe for eating. Opens earlier too 5:30

I ordered the Ahi tuna and coconut rice, it was decent but pretty over cooked to be considered rare. My husband got the shrimp fettucini and it was great. On another occasion we went to the bar for drinks and appetizers. The grouper bites were phenomenal but can't say the same for some of the cocktail creations. All in all it's a good place for a sit down dinner on the island. Bugs are extremely bad in this area so be prepared. The only place in all of Puerto Rico where we had mosquito issues was during both of our Mamacitas dining experiences. By the water as well as the bar. Wear pants and repellent.

We were a group of 7 and we headed to Mamacita's on Friday 25th of july. The front service was very cold we asked for the menu the guy only said "We have what you see on the board", It was a little board. SOme of us didn't know English because HELLO! we come from PR or how they call us from Isla grande soo I asked if he can tell us because my husband didn't know he told me again I have only what I have on the board. When the food came we order "Mar y Tierra" the Churrasco of my cousin was hard and bad and the tail of the lobster that my other friends order they told me that it stink like it was frozen for a long time that it wasn't fresh. When the bill came Oh my God $100 in two meal, my husband and me. If I go back I wouldn't go to this place.

Returning to Culebra I headed for Mamacitas as the only thing that looked open in town on a Wed. Night. All of the two souvenir stores were closed at 5 pm, etc. perhaps the bad economy has also hit tourism hard over here! Mamacitas was pleasant enough and the fact that power was out in the kitchen did not stop the bar from serving or the Flat screen tv run the soccer match of the day. As we were about to leave for dinner at The Dinghy, power returned. We had excellent appetizers and a good skirt steak with chimichurri. Happy people, good service in the face of adversity. . Just go with the Island flow, people, and you will be rewarded...

There aren't too many places to go in Culebra. That being said, we went to Mamacitas and Dinghy Dock on our first night, and hands-down, decided to keep going back to Dinghy Dock for the rest of the week. This could be a great place, but the killer for us was the service. We felt like a bunch of unwelcome Gringos as the waitresses rolled their eyes at us. I asked where the bathrooms were and one girl just kinda pointed and waved her hand. We asked for one of the menu specials and she told us it wasn't available. We had to show her the menu to jog her memory.Everything Dinghy Dock is - warm, friendly, hospitable, energetic and lively, Mamacitas isn't. It's dark, lonely, in a back channel behind the marina with an admittedly tranquil view of the fish swimming around. But otherwise, not really worth it.As is common on the island, a 15% tip is included so I feel they're not really motivated to work for their tips here.Food is OK here, but seems a little pre-made and pre-frozen.

Had a good dinner here. Snapper whole with vegetable side. Food was good, service was very good. The sangria I had was not very good. I like this restaurant. It's one of my favorites on the island. I would return.

The best place to eat in Culebra. Fresh fish, friendly staff. I loved it!!!! A little pricy but in Culebra everything is expensive. Don't miss Mamacita's when you go to that beautiful island!!!!

Do not bother to go to this restaurant. You will come out still hungry after paying almost 35-40 pp. it took us 10 minutes to place an order for dinner. Live music was advertised to play on Friday night and we were also informed that there will be a DJ, but there was no sign of such event for the entire night. When we finally got the seafood mofongo which was 26 dollars, it was very disappointing. I counted 2 clams,2 mussels,2 shrimps, maybe 6 tiny scallops. There was no fish as promised. If you are paying 26 dollars, you would think that the plate is filled with seafood. It was hardly worth 26 dollars.Go to Dinghy Dock instead for better value, better service, better entertainment. This was hugely disappointment on our last night on culebra.

I would probably give this a 3.5. The food was good and the drinks nice. For the price one might expect a little more. But all in all, it wasn't bad. I'd recommend the Tin Box as an alternative if you have a car on Vieques.

Went on a Friday night because they advertised that steel bands on Friday and Saturday starting at 7pm. There were no bands at 8:15 when we left. The place was empty when we got there and only had a few more tables when we left.It is on the water, but not much of a view, since its on a canalThe food was hit or miss. The fried grouper and chicken mofongo we didnt like, but the shrimp mofongo and cerviche were pretty good. The bushwackers were good Service was SLOW. Hard to get our servers attention. We noticed that restaurants are adding 15% gratuity on all bills in Culebra because people were not tipping. Downside is the waitresses dont have any incentive to work for a tip.Prices were comparable to other restaurants on the island.

We have spent 4 days in Culebra with the luck to choose Mamacita's on the first day for our lunch. Didn't go anywhere else afterwards (thus have no comparison on the island), we were so satisfied with all the food, the service and the atmosphere. The stake is the best not only in Puerto Rico but one of the bests we have ever had (that is quite surprising from such a small restaurant!). Also try Mofongo with sea food and all the delicious coctails they have!Yes, there is a difference in lunch and dinner menu/prices but we didn't regret any penny we spent here.Keep up the good work and gracias guys for all your kindness, we hope to return some day! :)

I live on the island of Culebra and I haven't been to the new Mamacitas since the change in ownership. The review is based on my personal experience dining at the restaurant on a Monday night and the food was superb!!! The prices are a little on the high end, but, no more different than many other restaurants on the island. Our dinner for 4 with appetizers, entree, dessert, bottle of wine and other cocktails came to $200.00 (so, not too bad).We ordered the Ceviche (which was perfectly seasoned and the fish was extremely fresh), lobster croquette (served with a guava sauce) and the jalopeno poppers. All three were very good and the portion was right for the 4 of us. For dinner I ordered the Mahi Mahi with lemon butter and the rice and beans. The rice was perfect and the beans was hearty and delicious. The mahi mahi was flaky and perfectly seasoned. My partner ordered the Yuca mofongo stuffed with shrimp and it was fantastic!!! Our friends ordered the seared tuna with sweet soy glaze and the Ribeye steak. The tuna was seared to perfection and the taste was fantastic. The steak was cooked medium as requested by my other friend. The bottle of wine (Shiraz from Concha y Toro) was $25.00. The appetizers could be on the cheaper side, but overall, I recommend Mamacitas to anyone visiting Culebra. I'd say my experience tonight was that the food was better than many other places on the island. Go try it out

We like the food and service very much! The price is much better for lunch, but pricey for dinner. The location is great, you can see the ocean canal and boats passing by. They have few vegetarian options. I wish they had whole grain alternatives, like brown rice, whole wheat wraps and pasta.
