We took a family trip--my wife and two daughters plus my son, his wife and their two kids--to Treasure Beach. We spent a couple hours cruising up Black River, where we watched the crocs, went swimming, and had a few drinks at a bar that was, in a word, rustic. Then we headed out to high sea for a trip to the famous Pelican Bar (which is even more rustic), where we swam, had a few beers, and enjoyed an incredible meal. It was the highlight of our annual trip to Jamaica, something that we'll want to do year after year. Highly recommend it to all readers.
We enjoyed a fantastic day with Buttonwood. We visited both the brackish and freshwater portions of the Black River, and topped the afternoon off with a visit to the surreal and beautiful Pelican Bar. The Black River is enchanting, beginning as a salt water estuary, with plenty of crocodiles and water birds visible. The mangroves were also quite atmospheric. Once we traveled further inland--in a sturdy and powerful boat, I might add--we watched the vegetation transition to freshwater. Once we were safely into the freshwater zone, we even enjoyed a swim at a delightful cul-de-sac.The guides were exceedingly knowledgeable and very friendly. We were traveling with young children, and the guides were perfect. Food and drink at the Pelican Bar were first rate as well!
This is a must-do when visiting Treasure Beach, without a doubt. Captain Myrie was a capable and good-spirited guide as he cruised us out to Pelican Bar where we swam, had some beers and ate fish straight from the boat to the kitchen to our plates. Then, on the way back in, we cruised along the Jamaican coast; it was great to see it from the water. What an incredible experience from start to finish. I can’t wait to get back and do it again.
I've been on two trips with Buttonwood - one with grandchildren visiting from the U.S. and one with a young adult relative from the UK - and both of them were great. The children loved just being out on the sea, "looking in" on the interesting spots along the coast and feeling the sun, and sea-spray. On the second, longer trip up the Black River, the flora and fauna, particularly the crocodiles, were of special interest. Add in a refreshment stop along the riverside, and then a swim, fish and beer stop at Pelican Bar and your day out is complete. Even the shower of rain on the way back added to the enjoyment! We have more trips planned - you should try one.
Capt. Myrie did a fantastic job showing us around on the tour...your have not seen Jamaica until you do a Buttonwood Private Tour. We brought the kids on one and then went back for some just adult time. Dolphins, Drinks, Sunsets - Cheers! The Best!
Treasure beach is one of my favourite spots in Jamaica: beautiful, laid-back, and off the beaten track, and Sandre's tours fall right in line with all that! We went as a family, including two kids under the age of 5, and we all enjoyed it thoroughly: boat tour along the coast and up black river to see the crocs, birds and mangroves; rest stop by the bridge where we ate crab; then headed back down to pelican bar for a swim in the crystal clear waters followed by a beer. Sandre and his crew are very knowledgeable about the area and point out interesting things along the way. The kids still remember the trip!
I've been to Jamaica more than a dozen times over close to 15 years. I've been on many, many tours all over the island... I've known Captain Myre since he was just a skipper! lol Sandre and his team always deliver A+ service. Whatever your desire is in St. Elizabeth and Treasure Beach they can cater to your needs and make the day YOUR Jamaican adventure. My perfect day with Buttonwood would be to start early with a Black River tour... Lunch and chilling at the Pelican Bar! Give them a buzz, you won't be let down!
A great day that took us from Saint Elizabeth along the coast to and up the Black River, where we enjoyed a cooling time, before ending the day at Pelican Bar - magical! Captain Myrie is a natural, relaxed & charming host and informative guide.
I'll never forget the first time I went on a Buttonwood Jamaica tour! Captain Myrie and crew were very welcoming. Every second spent there was worthwhile. I had a blast. I especially enjoyed playing with the dolphins, and oh, learning a thing or two about Black River Safari's world-famous "Charlie". Pelican BarWho knew that one could enjoy drinks in the middle of the ocean? Well as daunting as it looked at first, The Pelican Bar was something to talk about; the view from there was just -- breathtaking! The Buttonwood Jamaica tour is definitely one I will do again soon. Kudos to Captain Myrie and crew!
This is a must do!! One of the best days on the trip. There is nothing like these boat rides in Jam Roc. I can't wait to go back. Thank you!
Ive been going for close to 30 years and since this tour started i have never been let down! Great job!
I am a regular visitor to Buttonwood and Treasure Beach and the beach, vibes and people are fantastic. Sandre is a great friend and the service and equipment he provides is excellent. Boogie boarding is my favourite as the waves there are most suited to good runs onto the beach. Highly recommended.
i was in treasure beach over the easter holiday and went out with captain myrie! great captain and very knowledgeable of the area! if you have the time, make sure he takes you all the way up the black river (past where the tourist boats can go/they can't fit under the bridge) to Rudy's bar! Have a swim up by Rudy's and use the rope swing if you are brave.
A fabulous holiday in Treasure Beach, Jamaica with trips catered for by Buttonwood Tours and their Captain Myrie. A magical experience whether it was a trip up the Black River to see the crocs, out to Pelican reef for lobster at Floyd's Bar in the middle of the sea, or just finding lovely tranquil beaches on which to chill out and swim. The hospitality of Captain Myrie and his crew was second to none. These are opportunities which you must not miss - a grand time was had by us all.
I have been with Buttonwood on two occasions and each time my friends and family thoroughly the experience. Floyd's bar, perched like a set for 'Waterworld' out on the reef, and the tranquil Black River tour up through the Great Morass. It is worth the trip to Treasure Beach, a village that moves at a slower and gentler pace than other more frenetic destinations, and Captain Myrie's kind attention to our comfort and safety was greatly appreciated.
