Weather was not for us on our trip to hawk cliff, wind in wrong direction and bright sunny sky. Went to two other spots were we saw bald eagles and a snow goose along with misc other birds including turkey vultures
Been birding for 10 years, somehow didn't hear about Hawkcliff until last year. We went out several days; saw some fantastic kettles (missed the big day though) and lots of hawks, even lots of migrating smaller birds. Hawks included, Broadwings, Northern Harriers (my fav) lots of sharped shinned and coopers, kestrels, eagles, the odd golden eagle, merlin’s, peregrines and of course the red tail.Big problem here is the road is in bad shape and I would suspect one day the township is going to nix the roadway and we will have to walk to the cliff, making access difficult to lots of elderly and handicapped that would otherwise be able to access quite easily. Too bad these gems are being taken away everywhere.
So much to see here. Devoted birders love this place and I can see why. Had a fabulous time here with a friend who is a birder.
One of the best migration viewing spots for raptors in North America. Thousands and thousands of sightings of many species of hawks, eagles and many other fall migrants. A must do for any birders.
Located on the bluffs over Lake Erie. Always a great spot for watching raptors soar. Difficult terrain but well worth the effort.
Besides an amazing view, this is one of THE places for viewing migration of the hawks and other birds.
The lecturers were knowledgable and passionate about birds passing through this key location.
The time to go is during the raptor migration! Bird lovers rejoice at these sights. The place itself merits a very short visit otherwise.
