A look back in time when the settlers were hardy!! We visited in February so not busy, however I suspect in the school holidays it would get congested, therefore visit early in the morning.
Loved it, walking outside can get a bit hot but the history of the mine is worth the visit. As you walk along the paths outside you can see bits of blue and green in the gravel from the copper.
We didn't have time to explore this historic site, what we did see and read about was interesting. Allow time to explore and visit the old buildings
had no idea Burrawas so interesting or life was so hard for the miners and their families.Great experience and very enlightening
A really worthwhile day will be had, if you get the "entry - key " from the Burra Information Centre and spend a couple of days exploring the Burra mine history and what goes with it. Congratulations to the latest completed project : the old railway station!! What an achievement!!The locals are very nice and friendly also!!
The history of Burra is intricately wrapped around the copper mine, and the 20th century protection of the remains was fundamental to so much of the development of heritage legislation. The mine remains are well preserved, with informative sign posting - but it pays to get the key if you want a closer look at the insides of the main buildings. Well worth taking the time!
The heritage trail is a must. It should be on your bucket list. Its my 4 th trail tour, still loving it
The history of the copper mine was well explained and is wasy to visit. It was interesting to be able to realte the mine itself to other features in the town like the miner's dugouts. Worth a visit if you are in the locality.
grandkids had a ball doing a treasure hunt given to them by lady in the info center.get the key for a closer look at all the sites.
We didn;t have time to do the whole trail thing at Burra but arrived at the mine at opening time thinking we would spend half an hour.Three hours later ..........Started by looking at the ruins on the way to the museum / pump house. We thought the ruins were interesting but the old de-watering pump house was a real eye opener and definitely worth a visit. It not only talks about the mine but really gives a social history lesson on the district and also on the early days of South Australia. The conditions of work were pretty awful for the miners and their families but probably not much worse than for the general population. The museum and surrounds give a little insight into those conditions.Take the time to walk further around the open cut pit to see the mine overseers cottage ruins, but more especially for the view of the now flooded pit. This mine is a must see if you are in the area.
The town has done an excellent job with sign posting elements of the old mine and their history. It is worth a visit, especially to read of how the people of the town worked in the 1800's. Burra should be proud of this attraction.
Well present and plenty of signage with information as well as guide/presenter. Well worth a visit. Books available for purchase.
Any one visiting Burra will have some understanding of the rich history both past and recent relative to its mining history. The town should be proud of the efforts made to preserve the history. All areas are well sign posted, roads are excellent and viewing areas are a credit to this small community. Anyone with an interest in mining history should be encouraged to visit Burra.
