Cost nothing, the weather was fantastic, the company was great and the view was sensational what more can you say.
Some will find this a challenging walk....its only short (15mins) though steep. Seats are placed along the way for comfort of those who choose to rest. The walk has been designed with steps all the way (thank you to the volunteers who must have worked so hard) The tower is 3 stories high, further climbing. On a clear day the vista is beautiful. Take binoculars in the whale migration season (July-October). Only problem...the trees are blocking the view in a big way! Shame, I have no solution to that conundrum???? Still enjoyable, take H2O.
What would be a lovely casual walk up to the viewing platform is a nightmare because of the plague proportions of mozzies...we were savaged (and we were wearing repellent)...Not worth the pain..although the view is pretty!
Just a short 450 m walk up a path then a tower to climb for 360 degree views of Forster and Great Lakes and down the southern coast. Fabulous. Would be great for a sunset too.
Well worth the effort going up the track to the lookout itself, the view can be amazing, just pick a clear day to do it and not a fill in on a cloudy hazy day.
It is a great view from the top, but we went a few days after the rain and it was still boggy and slippery. If we went a few days later it would have been great.
While enroute to Port MacQuarie, we decided to take the "scenic route" through Forster. As there hadn't been much in terms of scenery, we decided to check out the Cape Hawke lookout. The walk to the lookout is just over 400m on a well maintained trail of stairs. The views at the top would justify the climb. That said, in January, the Mosquitos were terrible. In less than 25 minutes, I had over 20 bites and needed to find a pharmacy to survive the rest of our drive in reasonable comfort. If you do give this lookout a go, consider insect repellent, it will make it much more enjoyable.
Almost a 360º view - blocked by some trees to the South, but clear views up to Forster and beyond. Well worth a visit.
Fantastic view over Forster to the north and the lakes to the west. It is a bit of a steep climb up to the top however there are about half a dozen park benches on the way to rest if you need it - and as another "punishment" once you make it to the top you then have to then climb 2 levels of stairs to the viewing platform - but its well worth it!
What a fabulous spot! That water is to die for...the colour amazing. Fresh air is fantastic after the smokey city!
As a local, this spot is a favourite to bring visitors. The view from the top gives a great perspective of the whole area. It's not a breeze getting to the top, but doable if you are reasonably fit and mobile. The view from the tower at the top is spectacular and great in whale watching season. One big disappointment is the car park. A few years ago, one could see ( from the carpark) , a wonderful view westward over Wallis Lake and beyond, allowing those who couldn't manage the climb to the top of the lookout, a good view. The trees and weedy bushes have now been allowed to completely block any view at all. Shame, it was lovely.
Highly recommended when in Forster. Need to drive up the mountain a few kilometers from the city to a cul-de-sac parking area, and hike up to the look out (about 15 minutes trek each way ). It's a comfortable climb- doable by kids and senior citizens. There are benches to rest every few steps . The look out presents a great 360 degree view of the ocean , the beach, the mountains. Wow! Bring some insect repellant if you can, as the mosquitoes tend to bite . Bring some water too to re hydrate. It was a very pleasant hike, and a very rewarding view.
As a couple of retirees we made it up the track in 12 minutes without having to stop. There are 4 bench seats if you need to rest and after the 4th its only another 25metres. At the top you climb a steel structure which is very solid and has fantastic views 360 degrees on a very safe platform.
It is well worth the steep climb to get 360 degree review of the surrounding landscape. Take some water off you go.
what an awesome spot with incredible viewsoffers 360 degree views of lakes and oceana must for visitorsexcellent during whale season
