The Long Paddock route follows the original stock route along the Cobb Highway from Echuca- Moama on the Victorian border, through to Wilcannia leading to the iconic outback towns of Bourke, Broken Hill & White Cliffs. The touring route takes you past eleven major public artworks and 47 information panels that tell the story of the region. Whilst well presented in some areas, others are looking tired, worn out and run down. The original idea of showcasing this unique part of Australian history is fantastic but needs a lot of work to bring it up to its former glory. One of the amazing buildings is the One Tree Hotel that litterally lies in the middle of nowhere over looking the vast expanse of the Hay Plains. Great for the avid photographer
We "did the Long Paddock" from Moama to Booligal (it goes further north to Wilcannia). I have photographed all but one of the Long Paddock sculptures, stopped to read the historic markers and visited One Tree Hotel. The Long Paddock is a fun history lesson through some unique terrain.
We have downloaded the app for our tablet which gives a audio tour as we move up the long paddock. To get the most out of the touring route you need to stop at the story boards. Check with police on condition of the dirt road from Ivanhoe to Wilcania before attempting this section of the road.
