For years, as I travelled on Melbourne-Sydney trains, I saw the Junee Roundhouse as we passed by. It didn’t take long on the Internet to find out that it was still an operating roundhouse, and that it had a museum attached. Railway buff that I am, I instantly put it on my bucket list. It’s taken me years to get there, but I finally did. When I saw that O’Shannessy Tours were heading not only for the Oberon Steam & Vintage Fair but calling at the Junee Roundhouse on the way, I was hooked. The Museum was everything I expected, with not only what was the biggest roundhouse in the southern hemisphere, but a bevy of old locomotives and rolling stock as well, all waiting to be explored, walked through, and climbed on. For me, the monster United States Army wreck crane was a highlight. We had a good guide (an airline pilot) who took us through everything that was there to be seen, even though we had him on a pretty tight timetable.

the guys loved visiting the museum and were fascinated with the operation of it all. Good for young and old, and a unique attraction not only for Junee, but for Australia. It needs to be promoted as historical evidence of our country's past.

I was pleasantly surprised with this museum. The museum member on duty on Sunday was highly knowledgeable about the roundhouse's history and all the museum exhibits. We were able to climb and enter all of the engines and carriages on show as well as looking at the large amount of railway memorabilia. This is definitely as must for families, with both big and little kids if passing through Junee.

So many positives:Being in a smaller country city (Junee) you will not have to deal with crowds.Very well priced.Authentic roundhouse, under cover. You can climb on to every engine and carriage.A small, working model railway.Lots of memorabilia and some of it not too far in the past.A little tricky to find so make sure you have yr directions right.

Wonderful glimpse into the past of rail and excellent museum with lots to see, you can enter all the exhibits and get that feeling of long ago, if you love the age of steam it is a must visit if in Junee

Everything...great history and fun. Staff were informative, hands on attraction. We spend quite a long time looking and enjoying all the attractions from the Diesel engine to old steam train. Young or old would find this lovely museum worth a visit.

Certainly worth visiting for a $6.00 entry fee for adults. It is run by volunteers who are trying to keep this place alive. You can actually sit in the drivers seat of the locomotives or go on the old carriages as a passenger back in time.

Well worth a visit to the Junee Roundhouse, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere when built around the 1940's, and still in operation today. We had a very knowledgeable young man show us around giving a running commentary on everything we saw.

The only fully functioning Roundhouse in Australia it's great for the kids to explore a house just like Thomas'!

Very informative for those who want to learn a little about the Railway Heritage of Junee, based at the Roundhouse there are many exhibits to peruse. An added bonus more than half the roundhouse is an operating facility which can be observed from the Heritage area and has the only operating turntable between Melbourne and Sydney.

Well presented machinery.Volunteers pleasant.Basic museum inside but interesting.Needs some more work to bring it up to a tourist class facility, doing there best with the funding.

If you ever want to talk to the current generation about rail coaches, this is the place to go to. $6 entry per person. This is the real thing - you climb real coaches - sit in first class seats of days gone by; go up the steam train locomotive up front. Do not expect this to come with today's sound effects or 3D screens. Nothing of that. You get cold iron/steel, wood worn out, graffiti covered bits and will bring you many memories if you rode in trains of many years ago. About 40km+ out of Wagga (very easy drive), plenty of parking and hospitable and knowledgeable guides. The adjoining Railway Workshop is a working workshop so hit it on a weekday and you might see a train or carriage being spun around the turntable. All real folks. Don't expect air conditioning or heating. Painfully and lovingly restored for education and memories. There is a miniature model railway exhibit plus many items of memorabilia in the hall as you enter. Plenty of open car parking (free).

any one who has travelled on steam trains between Melbourne and Sydney would love this snapshot of nostalgia with so much rail history on offer. Its not hard to imagine it in its heyday when Junee was a hub in the New South Wales Railway system. You can clamor aboard some engines and carraiges and enjoy the tour with knowledgeable guides who make it so much more interesting. the roundhouse museum does not seem to advertise itself and i came upon it by chance on a trip to the airshow at Temora .I am glad i did .Kids will love it as well.

We stumbled across this place whilst on a country drive, and we're so glad that we did.Whether you like trains or not, there is fun to be had at this museum. Not only did we learn a lot about Junee and it's rail history, we got to explore the inside of locomotives and carriages from decades past. The experience was fantastic. For those of you that are enthusiasts, there is a fantastic model train set, but it's nothing compared the the many real examples at this museum.Entry is only $6, which is a bargain!

There is so much history and you don't need to be a train buff to appreciate it. History explained by an enthusiastic volunteer. Well worth the visit but I don't think it opens until midday. May worth checking before you go.
