Nice place to sit and relax and have a pizza for Dinner with the family while visiting Tenterfield .
Well worth driving out of town to this lookout- the views overlooking Tenterfield are truly spectacular- good road access and easy to find- stopping off at cemetery for history buffs!
Short drive out into the local country side passing by Tenterfield Cemetery which on return trip from Mount Mackenzie is well worth a walk through as nearly all local history is shown to be there in the form of head stones , the dates are quite fascinating and take the reader back in history. Mount Mackenzie gives the visitor the opportunity to view the landscape from a different advantage point been well above the township of Tenterfield. This little tour out from town is a must for anyone interested in local history and scenery.
Only a short drive from town, easy to find. This reserve has a lookout which offers wonderful views to the north and east. We travelled late afternoon (around 3.30pm) - any later in winter would be getting too cool with too many long shadows to fully appreciate the pretty drive and lovely scenery. We encountered grey kangaroos and rock wallabies, which were plentiful along the roadside.
Get to see Tenterield form a different perspective.Just 8 kms out of town heading west, over some easy driving narrow roads, brings you to the reserve. It is a steep rise, but the road is well maintained and offers thick dense bush with plenty of potential firewood (signs prohibits the collection). At the top is a viewing platform with shelter and toilet. The views are great and there is a diagram providing you the landmarks of the area.Well worth the time to discover.
We took this 1hr drive on the afternoon we arrived in Tenterfield, it was extremely hot and if it wasn't we would have considered cycling the track; it is mainly off road but in very good condition with all types of vehicles able to do the route with ease. The best views are from Mt Mackenzie lookout but there are other good sights along the way
Brilliant. Only about a 10 minute drove from Tenterfield this Nature Reserve offers amazing views over looking Tenterfield. There are a couple of picnic tables, plenty of wildlife and a toilet.
If you drive up to the lookout in the early morning you should be treated to sights of large grey kangaroos. Husband rode up to the top and thought it was very pretty.
The Tourist Drive to Mt Mackenzie is a 33 Klm round trip through some awesome granite boulder country - Road is good gravel and bitumen - the view from the lookout is worth the drive
Only a few kms out of town, yet you could be in the middle of nowhere. Bird life is spectacular. Well signed and the roads are good. You don't need a 4WD to access the area.
