This is a small museum run solely by donations and volunteers and they do a great job. There are exhibits showing historic life of the area of Proserpine. They have a rich heritage of sugar growing, farming, and WW II contributions. We learned a great deal about this rural area that has contributed so much to life in this area of Australia. This is a good place to take children as the exhibits are approachable and detailed.

This museum is of great interest to me and my family as it contains much relevant history. My forebears were the first settlers in the Airlie Beach/Jubilee Pocket area and it was in this Museum where my book portraying our family history had its launch. I am very thankful to the staff for continuing to promote my families story of the early history of the Whitsundays. This book Three Abell Men is available from the Museum and a second edition will be in print this year to meet demands. This Museum would have to the best value for money as a 'must see', for any small volunteer historical establishment I know of. Colin Abell

Old stuff but interesting. Big red fire engine with old style clothes iron. A big wooden bowl. A whole old style kitchen with dolls.

My wife and I stopped off here on the way to Airlie Beach as we were keen to learn more about the local history. The museum is only small and certainly not well funded - but there are a lot of interesting little morsels and the volunteers were friendly and helpful. For only $6 admission it is worth a quick stop over

Don't drive past Proserpine without visiting this museum. The displays and collection are a credit to the enthusiastic volunteers who have curated the many displays. In my opinion, this museum deserves state or federal funding to make it even better!

Manned by volunteers, this is a remarkable achievement of local and Australian history. If you are in the Whitsunday area, Proserpine is on the main highway as is the museum, it is really worth a visit.

Wow, you do not expect such a great little museum here. It has so much history of the area! Also has great artefacts from past living. Trouble was, we remembered living with so much of it as kids!!!!! You need to allow a good hour for viewing. Museum is on main road coming from south on the left hand side. Entry is $6 for adults and well worth it.

The volunteers in this community museum are obviously proud of their new premises and displays. Care has been taken with the exhibits to give a snapshot of life in various times and situations, and details of local heroes and celebrities take pride of place. We were on limited time as part of a tour, and could have spent a bit longer chatting to the volunteers and viewing all their treasures which also included local arts & crafts for sale as well as second hand books and dvds to help fund the museum. Well worth an hour or so if you are interested in regional history, and I'd drop in again.
