This old... okay, ancient town is neat to wander around. The narrow cobblestone streets lead to a plethora of churches that represent various architectural styles of Byzantine, Bulgarian and Ottoman influence. The locals seemed to be rather friendly and would usually offer a smile or wave.

Old Nessebar is one of our favourite places in Bulgaria! The old town is very charming and beautiful. There are a lot of shops and street vendors, but they don't try to haggle you. You can walk around freely and look at the local goods (honey, spices, embroidery, cooking pans) without being harassed. The ruins are enchanting; very often, you can see weddings being held inside the ruins. There is also a wonderful selection of restaurants with terrific views in the old town - high recommended!

We loved our day at Nessebar! Its amazing! beautiful ruins and beautiful scenery/harbour. My pictures speak for themselves :)You might think it would be boring for children however theres lots too do. Theres parks, shops, ice cream and food stalls. I recommend pizza, its amazing!! We even enjoyed the fifteen minute flash storm we were in! *** Watch out for the beggars, they'll be sitting somewhere with a child. Its been said that they use alcohol to make the children sleep to try and get tourists to give them money and the money is used for more alcohol.Don't let this put you off, we only seen 2-3 of these.

Nessebar is an old amazing town in Bulgaria, that belongs to the UNESCO list and definitely to the MUST places in here. Even in winter it makes impression (+no turists, streets are so quite and even more special). It cannot be described, it has to be seen...

Very nice little town , well preserved and some parts of the city are very interesting ...But ... visit it out of season , otherwise you will have a lot of tourists and a lot of shops everywhere ... also during the season , a lot of people who will try to make you enter their restaurant ...

Beautifully sited on a small peninsular across the sea from the madness that is sunny beach. Old cobbled streets wend their way around the town. Usual touristy shops, but a few nice restaurants to sit and enjoy the local cuisine. Old churches and buildings are in abundance, a real journey back in time.

Small and nice town just next to one of Bulgaria's biggest beach resorts. Since we visited in September it was not too crowded and it was nice to walk around, seing the nice buildings and streets.

On a recent stop in Burgas we used the tour operator Tischner to do a half day tour of Nessebar & surrounding area. First the UNESCO World heritage City of Nessebar. It is located on the cost of the Black Sea, it is very well persevered & has people living in the old city. It has many shops & restaurants, old churches. The Bay on which it is build is now a major summer destination for tourists due to the fine hotels, beaches & other attractions. Our guide then took us well off the beaten path to a small village to a private home where we had a light snack, this was an interesting experience to see how the locals live. After that we went even further into the back country to what was an old communist collective to see what life was like. We stopped at a private residence & the lady explained how life was back then. All in all a very interesting and rewarding day. Would highly recommend this tour operator. They were on time the vehicle was clean & the guide spoke very good English & was very knowledgeable.

10 years ago, this place was charming, exciting and Bulgarians were pride that it's part of the UNESCO herritage. Now... oh well, not anymore part of UNESCO... just hungry for the tourists money people.

This is a fascinating area to walk around. The old buildings are well preserved and there is an air of old time feel to it. However, there is an over abundance of 'shops' and in some cases eateries. Possibly because we were there in off season the place was not crowed and the downside was being constantly pestered to enter or buy something from vendors.

The Old Town has Old Churches, Buildings and narrow streets that are mainly for walking.St Stephen Church built in the 10th Century has gorgeous murals painted in the 16th Century is a prime example of the Churches that remain in Nessebar.St. John Aliturghetos (Unsantified) Church is unfinished because one of the Workers died during Construction. Construciton is of Stone and Brick with unique patterns and built in 14th Century. The architecture in Old Nessebar incorporates may different designs with the brick and stone. It is amazing the construction still exists..We visited Nessebar as part of an excursion from our cruise ship

We arrived in Old Nessebar on December 2 and was a rainy day, which made me and my wife be the only tourists :). Apart from a couple of restaurants, a few shops and few locals, we were alone on the streets of this beautiful town, with a centuries-old arhitecture. Besides the arhitecture of the old houses, it is clear that the main objective is the gorgeous arhitecure of small churches and ruins of ancient fortress. However, given that we are on the Black Sea coast, summer would be ideal season to visit, even if then are thousands of tourists and the town are crowded!

Nessebar is definitely worth a visit. It's charming and historic, even with its share of tourist shops. For six of us it was brought to life by our wonderful tour guide, Hristina Nedelcheva, who not only knows the city inside out, but took us to a local restaurant for an inexpensive but delicious lunch. She also helped us buy the coveted Bulgarian rose oil. We were off a cruise ship originally scheduled to tender to Nessebar, but which due to sea conditions, had to dock at Burgas (30 km away). We had an all day tour with Hristina and saw a monastery (where we sampled the brandy they produced), an organic bee keeping farm, the historic salt flats (with its old methods of harvesting salt, a Thracian tomb (which you can enter), and a winery. If anyone needs a great guide, who's personable, well prepared, and speaks great English, you can contact Hristina at: hristina.hr.bg@abv.bg.
