My family and I love the Arts Centre. From fantastic shows for kids to brilliant events for adults. Our kids have thoroughly enjoyed the Arts Academy sessions during the summer. A brilliant place with real atmosphere. Would high recommend.
Lovely environment combines history of former church, with great acoustics and friendly atmosphere. Close to other town amenities and reasonable priced parking very close.
Been here lots of times and it's a wonderful place to see a wide range of acts - comedy, music, poetry, farmers markets, often before they are well enough known to be expensive. The fact it's a beautiful old church gives it atmosphere and it's small enough to feel close to the acts. And a bar as well! if you needed any other incentive the staff on the door and in the office are always friendly. In fact the only reason this isn't a five star is the seats - hard plastic, a bit narrow and tightly packed without being staggered for sightlines.. However they are appealling for funds for new ones - fingers crossed.
I have visited quite a few times over the past years seeing gigs, comedy, poetry..... A real diverse cross section of things. The atmosphere is always welcoming and intimate. I love going there, it's my favourite place for live performance.
I've seen countless bands here over many, many years. It's a lovely venue well run and well promoted. Effective, yet fair security and reasonable beers available.
Some great bands here as well as comedy and all sorts of other things. Good value, local and a great atmosphere. Quirky newsletters so get on the distribution list!
Simply the best small gig venue in Essex. I have seen a range of artists here.So good that my wife will come to concerts here.
This is absolutely the best thing about living in Colchester. I spend many an evening here. I love comedy and have seen loads of comics up and down the eminence scale. Poetry, drama, bands and kids theatre as well. Staff always pleasant and relaxed. Artists seem to like playing here too and I have loads of great memories. Comedy festival in the summer and often tryouts for Edinburgh. Pub prices.
A great venue for music and comedy. Small enough to feel friendly and personal with many varied acts and shows during the year, very helpful box office staff.
What a fabulous venue. For me it is the jazz and folk which is second to none, but I hear the comedy and other gigs are great as well. A fantastic atmosphere and excellent and friendly staff. There will be something for everyone so don't miss out!
Love going to the Arts Centre. Gigs, shows and parties have all been fantastic here - not to mention the wonderful beer festivals (the winter festival was my last visit). Lovely big venue, great stage, sound's always good and the staff are super-friendly.
A small friendly venue with an eclectic mix of live music, theatre and comedy. Great sound and lights and real ale
I don't think you can beat the Arts Centre as a small venue for live music. Sound quality is always good and often better than bigger venues I've visited. Bars have a good range of beers and ciders available plus sufficient staff, which makes a real change from most venues. The summer and winter beer festivals are always worth attending, as are the farmers markets. As well as what I've already mentioned the venue hosts a very wide range of events, including comedy, poetry, jazz, world music and theatre for both young and old. If you can't find something that interests you then I would say you really do need to get out more. The Arts Centre hosts many charity events and also a number of "pay what you can" nights. The building itself is, of course, a deconsecrated church and has real character. I always look forward to a visit, whatever the event.
Great venue, cool music, brilliant comedians and really nice staff. Lovely laid-back vibe and reasonable priced tickets to see some quality performances.
Every time I go here there's something completely different on. Whether it's a gig, a play, a beer festival or a jumble sale, I'd recommend anyone visiting Colchester to check out the schedule. My only complaint is that they didn't give me a job there after I gave an awesome interview. But I forgive them because I got some nice beer from an organic market they hosted.
