Absolutely brilliant day out seeing Hospital food, a youth production with local students and then an hour later Lion Boy a theatre De complicite production! A hard hitting drama acted beautifully and a theatrical master piece showcasing raw skill and brilliant design! The theatre has easy access to pick up tickets on entrance! Two audatoriums, Studio and main, both good venues to see a play. However the studio was very hot with hard seats. The bar is so modern and friendly staff welcoming! Brilliant to meet cast after the show!On the website the hospital food was offered at half price if you book lion Boy too and Lion boy was reduced price for under 26's! These offeres are brilliant for students like myself and due to the excellent offer the Mercury had I was able to arrange for a party of 9 to go to the theatre. From multiple good experiences at the Mercury; both acting and service this theatre is doing something right!
Excellent variety on offer for Spring 2015. Well done to the new team at the theatre. Looking forward to Animal Farm next season too.
What a wonderful theatre. It has a great atmosphere and helpful friendly staff. It is comfortable and the facilities are excellent. There is a wide range of plays, shows and single night entertainment. Something for everyone. With the St Marys car park so close visiting could not be easier.
Living near Colchester, we go and watch all sorts of shows at the Mercury from a fabulous "Queen" tribute band; The Importance of being Ernest: Doctors in the House and an incredible gymnastic performing group from China. Easy to park at St Marys carpark and walk across to the theatre. There is food available (restaurant) and a bar......There is a lift for access to the theatre for wheelchair users
We are very lucky in Colchester to have a theatre of this standard. I would like a few more more popular plays there are times when it it just a bit too "arty", I would then attend more often but good actors of a high standard, nice bar and seating
We have been to the Mercury's panto every year since 2008 and was hoping for a great one this year after being a little disappointed with last years show. This year was fantastic especially buttons (dale) and the ugly sisters. My 2 sons (11 & 8) have promised me that they will definitely be coming every year forever.
one of the funniest pantomimes we've been to for a long time a brilliant show well done.............
Hadn’t been to Panto for many years but saw the penultimate performance of Cinderella and what a treat! Superb performances from all the cast and a special mention for “Super Buttons”!! A real “Feel Good Family Show” in a modern Pantomime tradition! I’d only booked our tickets the previous day but collection at the box office was seamless and we were soon seated waiting for curtain up. Good views as usual from half way back on the side, don’t think there’s a bad view in the auditorium? Sound was excellent and the staff extremely helpful, especially with lots of children flying around what with it being Panto and all! We’re very lucky to have such a wonderful facility as the Mercury Theatre here in Colchester, which puts on some fantastic productions throughout the year. Look forward to visiting again during the coming season.
We attended the pantomime at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester yesterday. We really enjoyed the Panto and had us all giggling and joining in. My granddaughter really got into it she was shouting and having lots of fun. It was lovely to see a traditional panto that could be enjoyed by both adults and children. WELL DONE.I must also give praise where praise is due - the staff were extremely helpful sorting changing the date of our visit as my mum was admitted to hospital just before Christmas so we were unable to make the original date 23/12/2014 and the very kind staff changed our tickets for this Sunday.I would thoroughly recommend this lovely Theatre and particularly the Christmas Panto.
An intimate theatre with great work to see. A mixed programme of classics and new work delivered in a venue that is both historic and contemporary.
Went to the matinee of Cinderella yesterday with family including two grandchildren. We all enjoyed it immensely, it was very funny and a lovely performance. Good that the Mercury returned to a more traditional panto format after the very disappointing production last year.
Fantastic night out to see Cinderella with my son, parents and my nieces age range from seven to sixty seven. Enjoyable for all came out elated.
We were so very happy to see the old faces back again, iggy and Tim to name a couple. Infinitely better this year, familiar writing and great entertainment. Since the Mercury changed hands this is the first show we have enjoyed; it shows if it ain't broke don't fix it! The smoke machine was well used this time as it was the right time and place for it. That rant is for another time. Once again welcome back and a very well done!
Enjoyed the pantomime - great fun! Surprised my husband by taking him to see this over the festive season and we both thoroughly enjoyed it! Would recommend it if you haven't seen it!
Had a great time at the panto, went Boxing day. Very well sang and acted. Thank you Mercury Theatre for a very enjoyable time.
