Try the ice cream or the chocolates, you will pay a little more than normal, but will get a lot more back in return!
I first tryed this chocolate last year when it was given to me as a gift over the holidays. It was delicious and I could not wait to find out where I could get more. Of course I used the internet to search for a location, and found the Lansing store. It did not take me long to get on the roadand program my GPS for the best route!! It turned out to be a sweet journey for me and not onlyis the chocolate the best, but so is the service!! I picked out a variety of treats and was helped out by one of the expert chocolatiers. I also found out that they have homemade icecream, and witnessed a customer purchase what looked liked a very tasty shake. The store is very clean and there are tables to sit and enjoy all your treat if you wish. On the walls are pics of where the store was orginally located and other memorabilla. This is a must stop on any chocolatelovers list!!!
This is a busy little place and open late. Young folks don't know how to run the registers. Need more adult supervision. Felt like they were competing to see who could get the next customer in and out. Good place for home made ice cream...
I grew up on hot fudge sundaes from the original Gayety's in Chicago. I am so happy that they are now available to me in Lansing which is a short ride from Northwest Indiana. Their chocolate candy is also quality. Yummy choices are available
There is an old addage: "You get what you pay for. " This place is more expensive than a soft serve corperate chain ice cream shop. If cost is your problem you will miss the homemade ice cream with natural banana real strawberry, vanilla and chocolate flavors. You will not appreciate the home made whipped cream. You will never sample the fine homemade chocolates, and carmels. This place has been in business for 50 years for a reason. It is an EXPERIENCE. It is, an old Fashioned Ice Cream shop and candy shop that uses real flavoring in their confections. You can taste the difference. It Fantastic! Sure you can pay less for high fructose corn syrup, spray can whip cream, and fake banana syrup. If you want to sample the old days when people cared about the product they served. If you want to know what your parents say was how it tasted when they were kids. This place is the real deal. It is a cool treat, a trip down memory lane when homemade and quality were the norm.
Delicious chocolates, the original store was in Chicago years ago. They branched into Lansing, Il. and now opened a store in Scherervillle. They also have ice cream and cupcakes for sale.
Great ice cream and candy!! Have been going there since I was a little girl. Somewhat pricey, but worth every penny!
This place has moved a few times over the years but I always seem to follow it to get some great ice cream love there banana nut sundae prices are a little high but its all hand made they also make a variety of home made chocolates great place to stop for dessert after dinner in one of many great restaurants in the area
Gayetys and I go back a long time. When i was growing up in the 60's my mother used to take us kids to the original Gayetys in South Chicago where we would happily enjoy the big fresh fruit banana splits topped with real whipped cream and almonds. We could see the soda jerks hand cutting strawberries, cantaloupes, bananas, cherries to make that fruit topping, all under the twinkling eye of the formidable Papa George. We didn't have much money then, but on occasion we would also splurge on Papa Georges' chocolate confections. O n Halloween, all of the kids in the area would make sure to trick or treat at Gayety's where Papa George would hand out crinkly white bags filled with peanuts covered with his delicious butter toffee. The old Gayety's closed, i moved away from the neighborhood and Gayety's became for me one of those wonderful things of childhood that often melt away into sweet memory. Thirty years later I heard that there was a Gayety's ice cream parlour in Lansing. I drove down from my middle-aged land of yuppiedom on the North side of Chicago. I ordered the banana split with the fruit, whipped cream and almonds. It tasted EXACTLY the same. I closed my eyes and I was no longer a middle-aged uptight yuppie professional. I was 8 years old and I'd come back home.
Every time I go to Gayety's I tell myself to order something different -- but I never do, I always order a hot fudge sundae with pecans -- if you like whipped cream you will love Gayety's real whipped cream you can actually watch the machine whipping the fresh made cream. The inside has that ol time feel of an ice cream shopd. There are table and chairs set outside in the front and also out back. I don't want to give away my age but I have been going to Gayety's since I was a little girl, which originated in South Chicago and since moved to Lansing, IL, I guess you can say I've been following them from place to place. If you are in the neighborhood, make it a point to visit Gayety's you will not be disappointed
I am a big fan of all chocolate so this was a great stop. Nice assortments as well. I really like the dark chocolate turtles.
Your prices are ridiculously high. How long do you plan to stay in business in Schereville, IN? Your prices are too high for the area and there are too many other choices. Let's see how long you last? You got me once, but not again. How many others have experienced the same and will not return? How's business?
I haven't tried the candy here, but hear it's very good. I have tried the ice-cream and hands down like the banana ice cream the best. Try the chocolate hot fudge sundae with the banana ice cream.
Walk in and travel back in time! The chocolate is divine, the ice cream is a real treat. Get actual service by a soda jerk who will create a masterpiece of a sundae just for you. The prices are more than Dairy Queen... but the quality is 10 times better. Worth every penny.
Service was quick & friendly and prices and products were even better.
