I skied this mountain as a kid/teenager at least 300+ days but hadn't been back in 36 years. It was great to return this year with my 16 year old son who has the skiing gene just like me. Since I left I have skied almost all the Vermont resorts (got to get to Jay Peak only), NH, literally all of Utah and most of Colorado. This place is very special to me. It has had some hard times financially and been out of business on occassion.It is not because of the mountain. It really is classic New England skiing. We hit it when the snow gods were smiling and the trails/glades were in excellent shape. The expert trails are gnarly, just not super long. It is a really fun mountain to ski. The small crowd size adds to the ambiance.

We drove 3.5 hours to get to Magic Mountain based on the website information that said tubing was open until 7pm on Sunday. We arrived around 4:00pm. When we went to get our lift tickets, there was noone in sight. After looking around for a bit, we found an employee in the ski school who tried to help us. The signs inside the lodge area said that tubing was open until 5:30 on Saturdays and Sundays. OK, not the same as the website, but at least we could get in a good hour of tubing. However, we found that they had just decided to shut down early because there wasn't enough business to make it worth their while. The second employee we talked to had a bit of attitude and argued that it was never open on Sunday afternoons (while standing about 10 feet away from their sign that advertised tubing hours until 5:30 on Saturdays and Sundays) and kind of smirked that we must be pretty silly to even think that we could tube on a Sunday afternoon. The facilities are pretty run-down / old-style. That being said, the snow and skiing looked pretty decent. I just don't appreciate false advertising and not being open when you advertise you will be open. There were plenty of employees around and there is no excuse other than sheer laziness for not opening the slopes when they said they would be open. Very disappointing.

When I was looking for a place to get a lessons for my kids, I researched the best teacher to child ratio. Magic had it. After skiing/boarding for a day, I realized I made the right decision. We went over to another mountain for a day and my kids all asked to go back to Magic. The staff made them feel special and the conditions were perfect. No lines and "out west" type slopes. If you want to feel like you found a hidden gem, give Magic a shot. NO fancy stuff, just great skiing. Best Value going!!!

If you like empty runs, no lift lines, untracked snow quality, inexpensive lift tickets, hot ticket sellers, cheap beer and plenty of room at the bar, then do myself and all the other reviewers and forget you ever heard of this place.I hear Stratton got bigger gondola cabins, check it out!

We went up for Throw Back Thursday , tickets were $20 and no one was there. It was a beautiful day! The lift attendant would come out of the shack to help us on the lift. Top to bottom corduroy, we would ski half the mountain and not see another skier. At 4:00 we went to the bar and drank $3 PBRs it was UNBELIEVABLE!! If you are a skier or know a skier do not miss this opertunity. We had one of the best ski days ever. It's non holiday and they do not do on a powder day, that's when they get 6 inches of snow the night before. Otherwise enjoy!

I was particularly impressed with the macaroni and cheese and the New England clam chowder. The staff is very pleasant and there's a nice homey atmosphere. Not a terribly large place but it has great skiing. And having the Upper Pass Lodge within spitting distance, what more could anyone want!?

Magic Mountain Lodge is a great place set in an amazing village. Staying in this hostel allowed us to get away into the tranquil Lyngen Alps without paying a small fortune. The owners are super friendly and extremely helpful. We were on a tight budget and Henrika found a way for us to see as much as possible for as little as possible. They made all of the guests feel welcome and if we'd had more time in Norway we would have stayed here for longer.

I've been skiing this mountain for 30+ years, and now bring my kids here. My parents have had a condo at the base of the mountain since the early 80s, making for an incredible ski in-ski out experience for our family growing up. The terrain is superb...but there's little to no snow-making, so it's all down to Mother Nature. Our kids have always enjoyed the itinerant goofy-but-knowledgeable ski school staff, and we appreciate the no-frills "we're just here to ski/board" mentality. Lift lines? No. Glitzy ski shop? No. You'll catch locals snowshoeing at the bottom end, a few friendly dogs, some (mostly) lovable if not salty lift attendants. Come after a dumping of snow, and it's real treat...not to mention a bargain.

Remember the before time when skiing was about hanging out with great people, having fun and laughing a lot. You can still find it at Magic. No obnoxious displays of wealth here. Break out your 80's ski wear and you'll get a high five, not dirty looks. The best part... When skiing is over for the day, parents linger at the bar while kids gather in a big pack, run around outside in the dark and invent games. BYO glow stick.

We love this small mountain for lack of crowds and tough slopes. The lodge is comfortable and the food is great. The bar upstairs has music on the weekends.

Nice mountain in the lower section of Vermont. Not a modern resort, but more rustic and charming. On a recent Saturday the lift lines were non existent. Considering how much less skiing you do while waiting, it was a definite plus. Low speed lifts, limited snow-making its best to go after or during a snow event. However, it has some of the steepest trails ready to challenge the most confident skiers and boarders.That's where the snow event comes into play. Lodge, lockers, rentals, cool things for kids to do, dog friendly, people friendly. You can have a good time.

Great traditional New England ski conditions here. Be warned - this is not a great place for new skiers or boarders. If you don't mind the long trip to the top due to the old lift equipment then this place is a blast. Very friendly people, and plenty of intermediate, and very challenging terrain. Almost all the runs have some interesting bumps, and a few trails I won't even try (rocky, and straight down) but if that's your thing you'll be in heaven. Pricing is very reasonable.Not much snowmaking equipment so make sure there have been some snowstorms before you go.

The place is old. Very good for blue/black skiers. there are also some green trails as well which was nice. It is not usually crowded however there is no half way mountain lift. Both lifts take you to the top and it takes approximately 15-20 minutes to go up.

This motel is a welcome stop after a long drive across the border. The owner greeted us warmly and showed us to our room that was spacious and comfortable. Great attention is made to cleanliness and the fireplace on a chilly night was an extra bonus.The extra was in nearby Manchester where we had a great day of shopping.

Tucked away in the south-central Green Mountains, this mountain is old time Vermont skiing at its best. New management is gradually transforming a dated mountain into a great skiing experience. All types of terrain from several expert trails on the west side to relaxing trails on the east side. Usually no lift lines.
