For covered bridge fans, this is a town you will not want to miss. We were there in the autumn at peak colors, and the bridges were wonderful. We started with the Slaughter House bridge. Make sure to drive through and get the perspective from both sides. Then we continued into town and parked at the Falls General Store - be sure to stop in for a yummy lunch if you are hungry. From there, turn the corner and walk to the first covered bridge, then on a short distance to the next one. Keep going - there is one more. Three total on this road alone. It was a great walk - the bridges were charming!

I love covered bridges and after reading about Northfield, my friend and I set about finding the 6 that we had read about in the area. Not having exact addresses just the bridge or street name, we were able to easily find 4 of the six. The ones on Cox Bridge Rd are very easily found but to my disappointment they all looked exactly the same. Then we easily found Slaughterhouse Bridge which once again looked exactly the same as the other three. Guess I was looking for variety. It was fun though to see and drive through each bridge and to stop and take pictures as well. The fall foliage was amazing on the drive to Northfield in early October.

These are four bridges you can drive through (three are on Cox Brook road off of Route 12; the other is a short distance away on Slaughterhouse Road, also off Route 12). They are well marked with placards giving the date of construction and the type of construction (three are queen post and the longer one is town lattice),.

I've never been through a covered bridge before, so this was cool to do. I can imagine how beautiful they would be to photograph in the fall and winter. Too bad I'm not a photographer. If you're traveling through, definitely seek out the covered bridges.

If you fancy covered bridges this area brings you to an abundant collection with minimal effort. Indeed, you can look through the Station Bridge over Cox Creek and view the Lower Bridge that is just upstream. A short distance above that is the Upper Bridge over Cox Creek. You can drive through all of these. Several other bridges are just a few miles away.

What's not to love? Three beautiful photo opportunities in a row. As noted, this road does get used by locals, but traffic is slow and I'm sure they are used to tourists.

We were out combining leaf peeping and covered bridge peeping. There are three bridges on this road within a mile of eachother. There are pull-offs at each bridge for takig photos. Be cautious about traffic becase it's a residential road.
