My husband and I walked from top to bottom of this beautiful old town district. The architecture of the buildings was so fascinating and I especially enjoyed the Carson Mansion. There are some beautiful sights by the waterfront and it had that old world charm to it. I recommend everybody check this out at least once!

Liked the coffee shops, variety of shops and there proximity to each other. The walk to the bay is fun worth it as there is an Ice Cream store at the end....

nice place to walk and its close to the water for added views. a number of very nice casual restaurants and many interesting stores. this is actually the nicest part of the city.

I love this area so much I moved here from SF Bay and now enjoy ther estaurants, shows, coffee shops, music, art galleries, and friendly antique shops on a daily basis. Not only do they have the famous high end 'Carter House' restaurant and hotel, they also have high end coffee, the stuff of life at Old Town Coffee and Chocolate. Try the chocolate turtles too. I buy the beans to take home. Other favorites are Gemini Vintiques and the Siren Song (micro brew and other beer with much live music-decor is awesomely CA historic authentic) on Second Street and the Speakeasy in Opera Alley (great drinks and music). Stayed at length at Eagle House Hotel and facilities and service were beyond excellent (with a view of the bay) and full restaurant /bar downstairs (Gallagher's). I highly recommend you stay in Old Town Eureka when you visit the redwoods so you can enjoy the restaurants including Carter House, Waterfront, and more. Lots of full bars in restaurants here and wine bars for munchies/oysters - Yum!

I have no dislikes about the Old Town Eureka, The stores, restarants were all excellent. I only wish that the old boat was operating to give tours of the bay. I will re visit Eureka this late spring or early summer.

There seems to be a lot of potential here, but it is not fully utilized yet. The Clarke Historical Museum has a gorgeous display of native basketry. Some interesting new/used book stores, a children's store which is really nice, a luxury bath and bedding store, a great fabric store with lots of stuff from India, an interesting jewelry shop here and there, second hand stores of all kinds, a travel shop, the food co-op on the southern boundary, a few good places to eat anything from bagels and beyond. There are times when it doesn't feel super safe because of the bar patrons laying in the street at mid-day or the homeless people gathered in an odd spot. It is hard to tell if the area is on the upswing or the downswing or just maintaining at a static level.

It should probably only be rated 4 stars but I love Victorian architecture. this is a must see area for people into this style of architecture and old town America.

Wander the streets of this charming area of Eureka, where you can have a snack or a full meal at any number of places and window shop for hours. Make sure you stop off at the Booklegger, a wonderful used book shop with room upon room full of fascinating finds. It's a true booklovers' haven!

It is a fun place to walk and shop. We went Thanksgiving week so it was not crowded and we bought some gifts that are unique. And had a blast in the use book store.

Actually, as a sales rep, I go to this area for business purposes, but I will say that there are lots of independently owned stores that are filled with lovely things in every category, be it clothing, books, gift-y things, dishes, jewelry, cafes, bakeries, or coffee houses. It's definitely worth wandering around for the day, and make sure to stop at Kokopilau, on 2nd St., where they carry lots of just about everything, including shoes, clothes, jewelry, cards, ceramics, stained glass windows.

Eureka has it's problems with the economy and there are a lot of historical building that have been "parked' until funds become available. There are a number of businesses and residences that have been renovated and this area looks like it has a lot of potential for the future. With the bay and the surrounding scenery, it will be an attraction.

This part of town, full of wonderfully restored old mansions, was a delight! Am not clear where all the money came to build these places in the first place, or to restore them since...

Take the time to drive off the main roads and get into the beautiful restored early 1900's homes and businesses!

We had not expected to find such a nice and old part of town with a few small and great shops, even if most of the shops were not very interesting. The main attractions are the old houses and a few good eateries. But the area is not very big.

This town has an old town feel to it, but there is something off about this town. My wife and I weren't sure what areas we were safe in or not as this is a depressed area. The charm of the town is not as advertised online. We never left the 101 area, so I don't know about the rest of the town but the old town part is below standards.
