Beautiful campus to walk around, and their campus market sells items that Cal Poly students have made (bbq sauce, chocolates and honey).
The campus is beautiful, tucked against the mountains. The Union is a vibrant place to meet your friends, eat your meals or study. Our granddaughter is having a wonderful first year and is looking forward to three more fun and knowledgeable years to follow. We are very proud grandparents of what she has already learned in her selected field and how maturing this whole experience has been for her.
My daughter goes to Cal Poly and is a Junior. Cal Poly does a great job at preparing the students for the future. Last summer, she got a high paying internship in LA after being recruited from Cal Poly. She has already had many companies interested in her for this summer. Cal Poly is extremely affordable in comparison to the UC system or any private school. This is the most affordable around!!! Beside the wonderful education, the campus is safe, beautiful and located close to town. Also, check out the red reaction center is you go visit. It is absolutely amazing!!
Our granddaughter went to Cal Poly for four years and absolutely LOVED it. More importantly, she was headhunted for a good job before she had even finished at Cal Poly. Today...at age 24, she has an even better job, thanks to her education at Cal Poly.Isn't that what an education is all about??? (Signed) Proud Grandparents...!!
I took some classes here. I also have friends who graduated from Cal Poly. The canpus is old circa 1901. Some of the buildings are new but a lot are very dated. Also it is like 1 mile from a state prison so so co-eds don't feel safe. While they do have a police force it is very small and ill trained. When I lived in SLO I knew 5 girls personally who were assaulted on campus. I feel the school didn't report it so it looks better on the school. Also it is a very expensive school there are better cheaper options. But on a plus side for some it is known to be a Party school.
We toured the campus briefly during winter break. I hope to go back when the students are there. what a compact campus that's built right into the hills. beautiful views. many options for kids in the student union center, including the bowling alley. We'll be back when we can visit longer.
This school is a dream, the kids have so many amenities including on campus restaurants such as sushi, salad bars, pizza, tacos and Starbucks. The campus is very clean, safe and up to date. The dorms are overcrowded, but most students move off campus after freshman year. No need for a car here, everything is within walking or biking distance and there is a public bus system to get downtown or other places in SLO. Kids cruising around in shorts in the middle of December 15 minutes from the beach. Oh and top notch faculty in all departments make this a surefire winner for any young adult with the motivation to get here.
When I first arrived in 1979 as a young professor at Cal Poly I swore I had been set down in the midst of an all-white country club. There were few people of color on the campus. Regrettably not much has changed in the intervening years except that the football team has recruited several black men who have done splendid work to improve the team's dismal win record. My hope that things might change in the future and that the campus will begin to reflect the diversity that we all see in the U.S.A.
My son is a freshman. We both love this university! Beautiful, not too big, focus is on the students, and it is prestigious. Everything we have been a part of, orientations and such, has been first class! Such a wonderful environment to get an education in. Plus since it is a Cal State, you get A LOT of bang for your buck!!!
This was a pre-application visit with my child to tour the school and campus. Beautiful campus and town. Looks like a wonderful place to go to school.
Went to the football game tonight, first time I'd been here. Parking, once you found it, was about a mile away from the stadium! It seems like a school like this, that has invested in a football team and recently upgraded one side of their stadium would have parking a little more convenient. It also isn't very well lit for the walk back after the game through the farm field so watch out and use your phone's flashlight!
We have visited the campus a number of times and we know people who have attended and graduated from this pretty campus in San Luis Obispo. Established first in 1901, it is part of the California State University system. The school encourages students to solve real world issues by a combination of classroom courses as well as lab exercises. It has a good reputation in California. With its closeness to the Pacific Ocean, the mountain parks, and such things as the Thursday night farmer's market in San Luis Obispo, there are fun outdoor and community events for students, faculty and staff to participate in.
This campus I'd for the students. It is well laid out and you can just see how the master plan is coming together. Students look happy and not stressed. Car traffic is minimal, mostly bicycles! It is obvious this university cares!
Friendly, professional, small faculty/student ratio, beautiful campus, great location and climate, high academic standards
When you come here concentrate on the few that work hard, not the party kids that want a free ride on their dads dime.
