Enjoyed the experience and the wine. Great personal attention. Looking forward to carrying your wines at our wine bar.
This was a terrific experience from arrival to departure. A sit down tasting with a personalised welcome sign on the table. The winery is a very small organic winery (8,000 cases pa) that donates proceeds to cardiovascular research. Our host was excellent and knowledgeable and we bought what we felt was the best Merlot of our 4 day visit to the area.
This was our first winery on our second day in Napa (1/10). We were a group of four 30-something's. There was a sign out front stating appointments only. We went in anyway, without an appointment just to see what we could do. I had researched a LOT of wineries on TripAdvisor and I felt this would be a good fit for our tastes. We were pleased that Lydia could squeeze us in. We sat at a big, rustic table and had 5 wines. Lydia was knowledgable on the wines and the history of Ehlers. The grounds are lovely. It was our first stop, so not time for a picnic but I can see how that would be great there. Note: if you're headed up that far north (and I certainly recommend it), drive a bit further to Castillo de Amarosa. It's a fun castle to wander around. We didn't do a tour because we wanted to get on with our tastings elsewhere, like Ehlers!
We had a private tasting reserved, and from the moment we walked in the staff were welcoming, friendly and made us feel right at home. We had a lovely corner spot with our name on the table. Our server for the tasting was knowledgeable and gave us a good overview of the Napa Valley history too. We enjoyed their wines and really like the 120/80 which we purchased. Apparently this is the last year they will be using the 120/80 label. The history behind the label is interesting and the heart within the E of Ehlers all made sense when you are given the history of the donations made by Ehlers to heart research. The property is beautiful and the house, being still original, was amazing. A highlight for our trip and we will definitely be making our way back to them in the future.
I had the greatest afternoon at Ehlers today! We packed leftover Thanksgiving Turkey sandwiches and went to Ehler's to picnic. We bought a bottle of their sauvignon blanc and a bottle of 120/80, they are so smooth and enjoyable to drink outside at their picnic area. Our host Phil was so friendly and hospitable. While we sipped wine, we played bocce and it was just the best experience! What a peaceful enjoyable afternoon to spend with loved ones! I will definitely be going back to partake, and recommending this winery to others.
Wish we had found this place earlier in our trip! We only revisited 2 places the entire time we visited Napa/Sonoma...Ehlers was one of them. The outdoor area at Ehlers is just wonderful. Gorgeous views all around, tree-lined bocce court, gardens, and beautiful winery. The staff was extremely friendly and recommended some other great places. We had been to several wineries over the week before stopping at Ehlers, so by the time we got there we wanted a break from the typical wine tasting. We bought a bottle of the Cab Franc, took two glasses out to the garden area and played some relaxing bocce while soaking in the view and enjoying the wine. The wine was fabulous. Better with each sip...smooth, bold, and well rounded. If we had known how great Ehlers would be, I would have packed a nice lunch and spent more than just an hour there. The next day we went back to buy more Cab Franc because we couldn't get enough. A true gem and highly recommended. We went on a weekday so no idea how crowded it gets on the weekend but there's a lot of space so I'd imagine that more of a crowd would just add to the fun experience. They recommend appointments but we didn't have one and it worked out OK. But we didn't do a tasting so I would recommend and appointment if you plan on a tasting.
One of Napa's coziest vineyards where you feel as if you were home, 100% organic, great selection and very friendly staff.
We came here for a tasting on Sun Nov 2, 2014. Our host was Alex, and he did a great job. First of all, the tasting was private. We got our own table and went through a progression of fantastic wines. This vineyard is unique because all their wines are made from grapes grown on the estate, nothing else. This is rare in the wine world. Secondly, the estate is run by an organization dedicated to cardiovascular health (hence the heart shape in the 'E' of Ehlers). All profit is donated to the charity, which is wonderful. My favorite was the 2011 120/80 we tried. It was delicious!Following the tasting, we had lunch out in the picnic area. It was so tranquil and beautiful, it made the afternoon so special. I would recommend this winery to anyone looking for a fantastic, unique wine experience.
Went here on our last day as a suggestion from a lady we met on our trip. Awesome experience. Very intimate knowledgable tasting. Loved everything about it. From the wines to the design of the bottle. Can't wait to come back!
Thanks to Bradley for being so attentive and friendly. He made our experience fun and comfortable. He was very knowledgeable about the winery and it's wine. Thanks to Anna from Obsidian Wine Tours for getting us reservations to tour Ehlers Estate. We bought cases of all their wines. Excellent wine. We enjoyed a picnic set up by Anna by the picnic area under the olive trees and enjoyed playing some Bocci. A must visit winery. Reservations necessary.
My family and I visited Ehlers Winery this last weekend. It was our absolute favorite! First of all the environment was amazing, very comfortable. Secondly, our wine tasting experience was outstanding! (Make sure you make an appointment to ensure this). Our host, Bradley, was a one-of-a-kind host. His demeanor made the entire experience enjoyable, fun, and relaxed. He was very friendly and professional and very knowledgeable about all the wine. Thirdly, the wine itself was amazing! We ordered many cases of their different wines. It was our best wine tasting experience. We will definitely return every time we come back to the area!
Must have appointment...but worth it. Great story behind this winery. Wines are special. Staff is helpful.
Attended Ehler's harvest party and what a fabulous event it was. Cheers to Ehler's event coordinator. I'd hire her for any event. There was a very good band and a dance floor that was progressively filled as the night went on. A mystery wine tasting (four wines) and a drawing--everyone who guessed correctly won. Gorgeously decorated tables. Fantastic wine everywhere..and no tickets to keep track off. Delicious mexican-themed dinner with tasty carne asada and all the accouterments. Lovely surroundings (but don't wear heels...everything is small gravel outside). Tasting continued inside after dinner, where they served three small and very tasty desserts. The photo booth was very popular. They go all out at Ehlers! Will definitely return every time we're in Napa.
After visiting our friend in Healdsburg, my husband and I decided to take the scenic route to Santa Rosa by heading on the 128 instead of Hwy. 101. We arrived at the cozy and beautiful Ehlers Estate. We did not have a reservation, but you should make one. We only planned to stop in briefly; however, we were so welcomed by Alex Simenstad and everyone there that this was the start to our first wine tasting experience. We were invited to come in and sit down at the bar or couch. The couch made us feel at home and Alex was so knowledgeable about all the wines we tasted. They were absolutely the best! Alex really sparked our interest, as we enjoyed learning about the family history and the years of commitment in keeping this place going. It is wonderful knowing that Ehlers Estate gives back in that the profits go world wide to support cardiovascular research. The tour Alex took us on was presented with much enthusiasm. You can tell he really enjoys sharing his passion and is a people person not only with visitors, but his coworkers as well. Everybody that we met throughout the tour were so friendly. This place is more than just selling wine. It is about the process in making the wine. Alex made us feel very welcomed and it was thoughtful that he thanked us for coming in. We especially want to thank you, Alex, for inviting us in. We plan to return some day and buy some wine.
This is one of the smaller, organic farms, and was so pretty! Staff was wonderful, and we had a breakfast tasting complete with pastries from Thomas Keller at Bouchon Bakery! So wonderful !Put this one on your list!
