49er drive-in theatre

We love this place for date night or family night! Kids can play while you wait for movies to start.

Wonderful place to see a movie, let the kids toss the football around the field and catch fireflies. They allow you to bring your own food, but please buy a few items from their concession stand. They are not outrageously priced, and after speaking to a few employees, that is how they keep the place open. They don't make money off the tickets, it barely covers the cost of the films.

Been going to the 49er since I was a kid. I saw Bambi here as well as the scariest movie I've ever seen (Cry of the banshee) as a kid.. My wife and I agree we must have met as children on the playground between the screen and the parking area since both of our families often came here for a family movie experience. Thankful it's still open. Classic Americana.

Place looks like carnies are running the it. The head of "security" that's been there for 10 years needs some communication skills of how not to be a total Jerk. What a joke !!! Thought it was interesting that everyone else with the hatch open on their cars didnt need to tie it down but we did. The "joke" of security didn't bother coming to talk to us until we were an hour in the movie to say anything. Really wishing I would have just paid a little more money and went to the movie theater....instead of the TRASHY NINER!!!!!!

I love the 49ers we come all the way from Chicago from the far south side, grandkids and all, sometime 3 cars deep.

Decided to take advantage of a perfect summer evening and catch 2 movies at the 49'er. Didn't want another summer to pass us by without coming here. It is so great and relaxing waiting for movie time, and it's VERY interesting watch all the drive-in regulars setup their areas! The menu is extensive and reasonably priced. If you're in the area for an Indiana Dunes beach day, the drive-in would be a great evening activity for you. Very sad that there aren't many of these left.

We have been coming to the 49er for about 10 years. Started with my son when he was a teenager. Now I bring the garandkiddies every chance I get!! Great prices for movies and snacks, family-friendly, wonderfully cheerful staff and well policed. I used to bring snacks and drinks with but no longer do that. I was educated on how expensive it is for the owners to bring these great movies to us and found out they can only afford to survive by the purchases made in the concession stand. I am a strong supporter of keeping the 49er going strong for years to come. Always anxious to see the season begin and a bit sad when it ends. I would highly recommend it for families, date night or just friends getting together.

With drive-in theatres nearly extinct, it's really wonderful that this one is still open. While you aren't going to have the greatest picture or sound quality at a drive-in, there's something to be said for the experience of sitting outside with your friends on blankets eating junk and watching a double feature. It's also relatively cheap, considering that you're seeing two films. My friends and I loved it; we went there at least once or twice every year while attending Valparaiso University.

The 49'er Drive In is a great movie viewing value for you and your family. The price of admission is good for two movies and the concession stand offers a wide variety of snacks for you and the kids. The 49'er provides a safe environment for you to bring you family out for a movie, with security on site during busy weekends. Listening to the movie through your FM radio give you the best possible sound for the movies and the staff at the 49'er also provide a free battery jump start service for vehicles that wont start after the movie is over. I highly recommend taking the family to the 49'er Drive In for a great movie experience.

A nostalgic attraction, the 49er drive in has been rated one of the top 10 in the nation several years running. For the money its an inexpensive way to see summer movies and a memory the kids will keep. Bring a frisbee and arrive early because for big movies and in good weather this place will fill up fast.

We will still see a move here from time to time just for the experience. I am happy we still have this attraction and it hasn't closed down. I remember going there in the '80s and hiding people in the trunk so we wouldn't have to pay as much! Not that I would advise that now; it's actually a very inexpensive evening out with the family and they still play the old '50s concession cartoon advertisements. We have even taken the dogs and hung out in lawn chairs in the back of the pickup. Also, it's always a double feature.

The 49er Drive-In has been rated one of the TOP 10 Drive-Ins in the country.The cost is minimal, 2 good movies to watch & enjoy the fresh air.I recommend this place to everyone.

I love an old fashioned drive-in. This is a family oriented drive-in that has the first show for the kiddies and then a later show for the adults and I usually enjoy both. Wonderful place for families.

If you want to do something fun and different, take a trip to the 49'er!!! They have current movies playing and you get a double feature! What could be more fun than watching a movie under the stars? I've been to the 49'er many times, but just this past weekend my husband and I went. It's like stepping back into time, you pull your car in, open your hatchback (if you've got one) either bring chairs or watch from the back of your suv/van. Too much fun! The concession stand is clean and they have alot of goodies! I would highly recommend this to family and friends! How many drive ins are actually left? We're extremely lucky to have this in our own backyard!!!!
