This is a real small town. It has some silos by the tracks, a grocery, a furniture store and two knick knack shops. And a pipe organ shop. It is really mostly a museum, but I suppose at some price you could buy one. It is well worth a look, for those of you who never gave pipe organ shops much thought.
We were in Sharon Springs visiting friends who took us to the Rhea Antique Organ Museum. There are 64 pump organs on display in the museum, all of which Dick Rhea (the owner) has refurbished and returned to working order. Some of them dating back to the 1840s. According to Mr. Rhea he has collected and repaired pump organs since the early 1950s. He was playing one when we walked in and said we were welcome to give it a try on any of them. I took a pass since I'm only able to successfully play a radio. It was very interesting to see all of the organs. A number of them had spots for candles or lamps the player would use to have enough light to read the music. Mr. Rhea was very friendly and took the time to answer all of our questions.Well worth a visit if you're in the Sharon Springs, Kansas area.
