Helpful, welcoming staff. A wide variety of goodies to sample and buy. They also have an online store.
The store itself is charming BUT the prices and customer service is another story...the cashier was alone in the store and felt the need to follow my family around the tiny store and stare at us, grimacing, as we had some of the tastings...if doing the tastings is frowned upon, why even offer them?!!! She then proceeded to stock the shelves which were right behind me as my mom and I discussed which jams we would need for Christmas cookies....So, she and I were uncomfortably close and actually touching, as she pretended to stock the shelves to be in the same room as us because apparently we seemed like shoplifters?! I have never felt more offended. If I am to buy cheese for $46 you know I am going to taste it first......will never go back!
I took family with me, and we visited twice... made several purchases and was sooooo impressed with the quality of every single thing in the shop! Unique and special gifts for sure!!!
Wow, loved the store, walked away with cheese plus soap and a great time with the staff. Can't wait until the second floor is open with bedding and furniture. Will be back!
Beekman 1802 flagship store is a store like no other. Artisanal products from around the US, Beekman is not to be missed on your next trip to upstate NY
Glad we went just because we had heard so much about it! However, it is a very expensive store. Very pricey soaps, which we did not buy. Very pricey honey and condiments! I did buy some honey, because it was delicious. The staff did encourage you to taste test everything that they had available , however, it was alittle difficult to try the samples on a stick. A cracker, or chip or something would have been better!
OK, so Mary Poppins wasn't there, but she could have been! Josh and Brent have done an incredible job of redesigning and renovating the new store.Upon entry the unique hallway, with the gentle spa like scent promise a lovely experience. The new shop is spacious, and beautifully laid out. We spent time simply enjoying the visual presentation! The products sell themselves. If you have never tried anything Beekman, you are depriving yourself of the experience of knowing enjoyment of owning the highest quality merchandise. From the soap choices (I don't think there isn't one we haven't tried) to the hand crafted textiles (everyone needs a Polka Spot hand towel!) to the delicious Blaak cheese the products deliver on the promise. The cookbooks are carefully written, with precise photography that entices the home cook. Take your time, handle everything, taste what is being offered on the day of your visit, and learn what true talent and caring for the customer, for the merchandise, can (and SHOULD) mean in today's world.Thank you Josh and Brent for a lovely experience and wonderful merchandise!
Very fancy and pricey little shop. However, if you are looking for something handcrafted locally with locally sourced materials, I recommend you check this place out. It is a great place to get unique hostess gifts. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Loved the decor, the displays of products and the chocolate goat. Friendly staff and very helpful. Most of the items can be sampled and range from soap and skin products to fudge cookies and clothing. Josh, of Josh and Brent, was most accommodating the day I was there. It's a delightful way to spend time in Sharon Spring and purchase lovely artisanal products.
We were in Cooperstown attending the Glimmerglass Music Festival and came here because there was a discount ticket enclosed with our Festival tickets. Later we were told the owner has, or used to have, some connection with Martha Stewart. We expected to see a variety of fine quality items. We were told the Sharon Springs store was the main store, as opposed to the summer-only branch store in Cooperstown.I would recommend going here from Cooperstown solely for the beautiful drive. That made it worth it. The store itself seemed to offer nothing very interesting--it was very small, the sales staff was inattentive, and I just didn't "get" it. When we were back in Cooperstown, we didn't even bother going into their branch store.
What can I say. they offer a few items that the Beekmans make on their farm. I am told they are expanding and opening the second floor in September. Perhaps they will expand their offerings. If you are a fan, add a circle. If you come here late in the day, go across the street to the American Hotel and have a great meal. The dining room opens at 5 PM but be sure to make a reservation
Imaginative garden tools, interesting specialty foods (chipotle creamed honey; many flavors of spaghetti sauce from local fresh tomatoes ...)
OK-this place is really nice. Great detail, great products. I was interested in several items until I heard the clerk tell a customer there was no bathroom and she should try the restaurant down the street!!!! Really?????It's time retailers realize the society is aging and it's just plain inconsiderate not to provide restrooms.I think I would have spent $200 plus had I not overheard this.I wonder if the restaurant appreciate the referrals!
The place is gorgeous, I actually wanted to buy something until I had to deal with the red lipstick lady who was not nice and to concerned about us touching stuff she acted like we were not allowed to touch anything it was to expensive - I live downtown Chicago near all the expensive stores that cost more than Beekman and are never treated like that we walked with nothing we lost interest. my reccomendation to you don't touch anything!!!
Maybe budget is four-letter word, but I still think it should apply in all areas of life. Our respect for our funds is what grows our funds. That said, I can sum this shop up in two words - fabulous and expensive. I cannot see one on an average salary buying much of anything in the shop, but it's very nice to photograph. I was there just some days ago in August and it could really use some air conditioning. The cashier was noticeably hot, as was I. I shared a lot of pictures, some with price tags. I came away with a couple "cool ideas" to do for much less and I'm glad my brother had me take a turn inside. I wouldn't make a return trip, but again ... I can decorate in style on a budget.
